Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

Im trying to finish my board. I am trying to decide whether or not to replace my TS9 with my green Rhino.

My main amp is down right now, so cant really test em that way. What do you guys find works better in gigging/recording situations, and why?

Thanks

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

the green rhino is better in every conceivable way... unless you love the way TS9's sound or prefer the simplicity.

looks cooler, better guts, more control... yup... Way Huge wins...

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

Different clipping and the Rhino has additional controls.

Same but different...

Benefits would being able to tailor your tone more and if you consider true bypass a plus then there is that...

Easier battery access...

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

Matter of taste. I love the TS9 + Pro Jr. sound. Just simple awesome. But that's me...

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

It seems the GR is geared towards giving the player more options in the low end. When I played a GR I didn't see it as being a TS variant. It's also got a heck of a lot more gain than a TS. I would also take into account that a TS9 is about half the size of the GR, that's important to me. I had a swollen pickle and it wasn't the most pedalboard friendly.

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

The GR has bigger bass, lower mids, and thicker highs.....and an LED that practically lights up the room.

The mids in the TS are higher mids, which in some cases punch through better.

The Green Rhino is pretty high on my list of favorite OD's, but so far my Klon Centaur and T. Rex Moller are my faves. I sold off the TS's and Fulldrive II's.

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

Thanks all! Ive been trying to compare em with crappy lil ss prac amp.. I can definately tell the bass dif in the rino.. And versatility. As far as extra knobs.. Good and bad.. I like the simplicity of the TS, and the one knob on the rino is not much use. Low boost. (makes things muddy) (again this is with a crap amp)
So, knobs for the sake of knobs.. No.
I do like the added versatility tho. But with this amp, I cant really notice the thicker highs..

Space, the TS for the win.. But hopefully my board will accomodate the GR..
Ill be glad to get my splawn fixed so I can test em with a nice tube amp/

TO, What diff does the Maxon offer???

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

if your doing a shootout, my vote is for doing a shootout on a proper amp ;) good luck dude!

based on youtube clips only,
for classic rock I dig the green rhino, for metal I dig the tubescreamer, but for my type of classic rock I prefer the black arts toneworks black forest pedal. cheers :beerchug:

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

Just worth noting - when you take into account the fact that the Green Rhino has top mounted jacks, I believe it takes up about the same amount of room as the TS9.

Transparency; smoothness; dynamics; an organic tone you can integrate into your sound instead of a layer of tonal shellac that lays over it, hardening it and sapping its versatility.

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

Honestly, there are so many boxes in this zone:

TS-9, TS9-DX, Bad Monkey, Green Rhine, Maxon Organic, Maxon Pro, Allums and Keeley mods....we can go on forever.

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

Not really all that similar, I use both, along with a MXR GT with the switch set to ZW most of the time. All are different enough to earn a spot.

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

I assume that whatever you stick on there isn't contractually bound to be there for the rest of eternity.....I mean put one on, then the other and see which sounds best to you. We don't have your ears or know what you want.

I see 2 HUGE issues with this all now...

First, you have them both at your disposal and you're asking US what the benefits of each are??!!

Second, you're using a small SS practice amp to make any real decisions on OD pedals??

If you have them, try them and you tell us what the benefits of each are.

And since the point (or at least most common use) of an OD pedal is to overdrive the front end of your amp you should ALWAYS use an amp that sounds good to you and works well with OD pedals...

We now return you to the regularly scheduled "This TS is better than that TS thread that will never end..."

Re: Benefits of Green Rhino vs TS9?

Dude, ouch.. I see what your point. I agree and wish I could provide a shootout, instead of asking.. But my good amp is broken so I cant properly run them with the crummy lil amp I have and I wanna put my board together and so I was asking guys that actually have gigging experience with em..
