Best $50 bucks i ever spent!!!

Soooo...i'm driving by my favorite local shop and the sign says...now carrying Taylor guitars!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you say instant 12-string g.a.s.....!?

Soooo...i go in there and pick up a block of heaven with strings and start strumming away... :32: :32: :32: :32: ahhhhhhhhhh... :32:

my wife and daughter head off into one of the other rooms...knowing full well how long i might be... :smack: :laugh2: :smack:

suddenly my 6 year old daughter came back into the room where i was playing the taylor...she had the biggest, most excited face i think i had ever seen on her...

"Daddy, daddy!!! there's a red guitar in the other room and it's not hundreds it's just 50!!! i love it!!!"

my wife follows her and has a smile of her face as well...i put the taylor back on the wall and follow my ecstatic daughter into the used room and i see a small scale strat copy, maple/rosewood neck, with one humbucker at the bridge, one tone, one volume, and a black pickguard...my daughter is still smiling and now actually jumping in the air with stars in her eyes...i take it off the wall and it actually feels decent...

i plug it into a roland micro cube and start playing it...not bad and it's only $50 bucks...i didn't have fifty bucks on me and i told her if it was still here on friday, we'd buy it...but then came the look that every dad who ever lived dreads...the lip quiver...the big watery eyes...the whole works...

soooo i told her i would ask jeff (the owner) to hold it for us until friday so no one would buy it before then...she seemed happy with that...we walked up to his counter and he saw what i had in my hands and the still excited look on her face...i asked him to hold it until friday for me and he said no problem...however...he must have saw a little bit of something change in her expression...cause he came out from behind the counter and said...
"i tell ya what...just take it today and pay me for it friday..." she instantly lit right back up...he then said.."you'll need a strap for that"...so he threw in a fender strap and she was on cloud nine...so was i...so was my wife...and so was jeff...we all thanked him (not too many shops in this world left like his) and went home where she has been eagerly learning and having the time of her life...however...i'm gonna get her some professional lessons so she doesn't pick up my bad habits...LOL...

just thought i'd share...pics tomorrow to follow!!!

oh yeah...i'm already wondering what SD pup to put in there....!!!!!????

btw...she loves it loud and distorted...LOL!!!

later,
mike

Hah! That's awesome bro!

And even working on the other side of the counter, no, there aren't too many stores left that will do that, and I'm sorry for that. Glad to find there are still places that will do that for a guy.

And keep the girl rocking!

Re: Best $50 bucks i ever spent!!!

very nice man, very nice.

hope your daughter enjoys, she seems very happy. and that store seems awsome.!

Re: Best $50 bucks i ever spent!!!

wonderful story! .. does that store have an email address? i think it would be cool if we could all email jeff and tell him how much we think of him for his gesture of goodness ... he deserves to get some of the good kharma coming back to him from around the globe

cheers

Re: Best $50 bucks i ever spent!!!

soon, you'll be able to buy yourself cool gear and tell the missus that you're buying it for your kids!

my son is hiding an ampeg J12T for me in his room right now! :)

his little solid state 15w POS is hiding in the closet and Mom can't tell the difference. ;) But he's eyeing my Seymour Duncan 62 RI strat like it's the equivalent of hush money.

Curly beat me to it!

That's awesome. My kids are really starting to come around to music lately. Gets me even more pumped up about it. Buy that man a 6-pack when you stop by to pay, you definitely owe him one.

Re: Best $50 bucks i ever spent!!!

very nice hoss, i hope your daughter enjoys it. Jeff is a great guy to do something like that.

Re: Best $50 bucks i ever spent!!!

Thanks for sharing this feel good story Hoss! Im excited for your daughter and as a father of 5, there is nothing like seeing that kinda joy on your childs face and its kinda cool being the Hero of the day too! And Kudos to Jeff for the gesture... Of course we know that Jeff knows he's gonna score some big greens from you for that 12 string one day.. I remember our talk before. I have a feeling youll be in that shop alot. :32:

Re: Best $50 bucks i ever spent!!!

Hey Hoss beautiful story - I like T4D's suggestion of letting us email his store - so often all they get to hear about is the negative, it would be nice to accentuate the positive for a change.

Re: Best $50 bucks i ever spent!!!

Hoss... that's amazing. Makes me kinda... I don't know. It makes me feel really broken hearted for some reason, but it's so awesome of you and that owner is pretty cool. I really think e-mailing him would be a good idea.

Re: Best $50 bucks i ever spent!!!

Hoss, That is awesome , man. What a lucky little girl. I remember getting my first guitar, I was on cloud 9 for 6 months. If she is truly hit by the music bug, then you might have just changed her life forever. THAT IS A VERY COOL STORY!!!!!

Re: Best $50 bucks i ever spent!!!

Nice, Hoss. That's awesome.

From the pics you shared of your family earlier on I'd say Jeff would've spent the rest of the day feeling really bad if he hadn't given it to your daughter then. She has a smile like an angel.

My little niece has the same effect on all of us to :)

Sounds great that your love for guitar has rubbed off on your daughter at such an early age. Maybe it shows that you're a good guitarist - bad playing wouldn't inspire the same :)
