Looking for the best 7 String guitar under $1000 (preferably under $800)

I want a floating tremolo or Floyd Rose

Play mostly heavy metal (sylosis) and prog metal (intervals)

I kind of prefer passive pickups but active is ok if its the right guitar.

Was thinking about a Sterling by music man JP70 or a Jackson dinky

25.5 might marginally give you down to drop-A which is lower or equal to what most heavy bands tune anyway, but you'd need at least 0.060" for low A, and where I live (I tried in Greece, Italy, and the balkans) those strings are not so common.

Re: Best 7 String Under $1000

sylosis plays in standard tuning lol don't need a 7 for that ahah same with new intervals, also in standard..

but for a 7 in that price range with a floyd?
Ibanez Prestige
Jackson Pro Series
Kiesel DC700 with a floyd or DC7x if you want a 27"

Used Ibanez RG7620 or RG1527, should be able to find either in your price range, both are great guitars. Can't comment on Schecters but they are supposed to be nice guitars as well, but in that price range you're looking at MIK for Schecter or MIJ for the RGs.

There is some Intervals material in seven string tunings.

I personally don't buy into all the scale length bull**** when it comes to sevens. My LP 7 plays beautifully and sounds super tight.

Washburn PXS29-7FRDSAM Parallaxe 7-String Electric Guitar Dark Swamp Ash Matte
Ascension will be proud of me :)
I haven't actually played one but I loved my old WG 587

I know. I don't drop tune with my 7 string. Intervals older stuff had 7 string work also.

Re: Best 7 String Under $1000

scale length isn't bull lol but OK there

In my experience it is. I play a seven string with a 24.75" scale length. I don't find that it lacks in tightness compared to other seven strings I've tried. My comment was also in reference to greekdude, who's comment I forgot to link at that particular time.

I switched between drop-A and std-B yesternight in my 7str 25.5" using 0.060 and 0.054 for the low string and I realized that intonation on low string is way far off in drop A than in std B. Drop-A would need the saddle to move at least 3-4mm further in order to intonate properly. Smth is apparently not natural in drop-A for a 25.5". Also string action height goes way up in drop-A. Under similar tension, 0.060" drop-A feels and sounds like complete garbage compared to 0.054" std B. So I kept std-B on this guitar. If I want drop-A i'll move to at least 26.5".

And that's your experience. I've always tended to favor thicker strings. I use a 64 on the low B and I tune between B standard and drop Ab. I haven't experienced the intonation issues that you speak of.
