you can buy a nice non-practice amp for 5-800

I'd look into an Epiphone Valve Jr. and an extension cab. . . and then spend your leftover 300 dollars on something else.

You could get a used Marshall DSL 401 for around that price range.

for Grunge you could pretty much buy any good quality tube amp for that money and use a distortion pedal thru the clean channel.... most TUBE amps can't distort that well for a bedroom practice amp anyways.... for bedrooms i am still using modelers, and SS stuff.... or the odd time a pedal infront of my C 30 or Fender 65 Deluxe...

If it was all tube, it wouldn't be much of a practice amp, but it should work for your applications. But anyways, start your search with the Vox AC15CC combo.

by practice amp are you talking bedroom levels or jamming at a moderate volume?

Good choice, i had one and could do what you wanted. Just get an OD pedal to go with it, maybe the Zakk Wylde or similar pedal.

Laney AOR series and actually any other will give you what you want, but as above, that price range is gunna let you pick up almost anything used but decent.

+1. IME, very few all tube amps are usable at true practice volumes and those that are have so little projecting ability that they're not so good for anything else.

For $800.00 i will settle for nothing less than the Celtic 5E3 in the for sale section . . .

. . . oh why could i not be in the States NOW !??? :(

GRUNGE & for Home-use, i would recommend the Peavey ValveKing :smokin:

For some reason, i believe it will make a great GRUNGE monster, and with the money left over, you can even replace the stock speaker to something a bit *darker.

*darker = I always think of SOUNDGARDEN when i talk about GRUNGE, and Kim Thiyll(sp?) had a very dark and moody tone !

I have NO IDEA what amp/gear set-up Chris Cornell used whan he started to play guitar.

I think Kim used (most of the time) a Laney.

- I LOVE SOUNDGARDEN -

Orange Tiny Terror is another option

. . . come to think of it, " I " actually think the TT will be able to make a great "HOME GRUNGE AMP" !!!
Add a closed back 2x12 or even a monster 1x15 cab !

And get a bit more dirt from a pedal, and you are ready to go :smokin:
