Has anybody used a car or hifi amp as clean power for a guitar rig?

I have a modeling pedal in the living room
on top of my HB vertical 2x12
I bought an EHX 5MM to power the speakers

But use the bantamp FX Return to do the same thing

you can totally do it with a car power amp

You will need a 12 volt power supply to feed it
you will need to create jacks in and out of it

Or like was mentioned earlier

Get an EHX 5MM
They are blowing them out at $37 right now

This isn't urgent for me, but I'm considering getting a small power amp to replace the 100W power section I'm using in my upstairs practice setup. I don't need much output volume - conversation-level solo practice - but I do need it to be clean for the preamp pedals. I'm not looking for an early breakup kind of thing. I also can't spend Powerstage money on it.

I've seen the cheap EHX options, the Quilters, etc. But it looks like a little hifi amp would give me more power for less money. I can put together cables with the right connectors if I need to. Has anybody else tried this out?
I have but I found I was getting better results with earphones for convenience. My current practice setup is a tech21 liverpool pedal into a zoom g1on. Keeps volume non existent and as loud as i need in my ears, difficulty was finding earphones that sound good for cheap but there are plenty.

You could build a mono class D amp based on tpa3116 chip, you get boards on aliexpress for cheap, some come with a makeshift case. The newest interations would probably be based on some tpa or tda chips that offer higher power. All you would need is a power supply and custom made cables to connect it to your guitar speakers. A good LRS smps will suffice for the job.

How well does the 5mm stay clean in your rig as you turn it up? I know it's a 2.5w class D amp so I wouldn't expect a lot of juice no matter what, but like I said a few posts back, I read stuff about it not having much truly clean headroom, and getting crunchy between 9-10 o clock on the volume knob. That would be fine for some things but early breakup doesn't work with these pedals.

It is surprisingly loud at 2.5 watts

I play clean almost always

With the modeler as the preamp
It just got louder

It won't get up enough to distort the 2 100 watt speakers

You can talk over it a a loud conversation
Not yelling but loud

That's with the volume at full up

In your bedroom your family will complain before it gets to distort

Hang on i will plug it up and shoot a video

Give me a minute

Ok it does have a buzz that may have been the cheap cables I use between the Mooer and the EHX

If you crank everything it does get some power amp distortion

Rolling back the volume on the guitar cleans right up

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this, it's great to hear it in action. I really appreciate it.

I hope that was helpful

Note the EHX doesn't have an OFF switch
I have to pull the 9 Volt power plug to kill it ever time

If i remember correctly
This may be why I use the Zombie FX loop instead

Edit

The wood grain on the Censtar is gorgeous aint it?

That's a set of ceramic Yibuy pickups
