Best amp that can do bass and guitar under $300

I would never put my bass in my Katana!!!!

O have a katana 110 bass amp that is EXCELLENT for both recording and performance, I've never tried guitar through it but would be more willing to put guitar through a bass amp than the other way around. It's a killer 60watt bass amp but they are around $400.
That's a good idea: Boss Katana Bass 110. I would get a Zoom G1-Four in the front for guitar. I think the Bass 110 has an extended range switch, or you can dial the blend knob fully right, with the Zoom guitar amp modeler.

Other option, but more expensive, is an EV ZLX-12P powered speaker with whatever modeler in the front. That will sound good at low and high volume, with guitar and with bass.

This right here.

I have to ask though...why does she have both instruments and no amp? You didn't buy her a guitar, then buy her a bass, and now you are buying her an amp?

How about buy her a necklace and a really nice dinner?

Well, technically she's borrowing my bass and a guitar, I've got more than enough of those already.

I forgot to respond earlier, but I went to a pretty big guitar store in the DC area, and got to try out several of the suggestions.

I did end up getting a Rumble 100 they had, used for roughly the cost of a new 40. It may be a bit much for a practice amp, but it sounds pretty great quiet too. I was heavily considering a VIP2 they had there.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I know you are looking for a combo, but I got my solid-state Fender Bassman 100B head for around $125 and it sounds amazing for both guitar and bass.
