"Best bang for the buck" semi-hollow?

Re: "Best bang for the buck" semi-hollow?

My personal fav for theaward in the "Best Value In A 335 Clone" category is my MIK Ibanez Artstar AS-120TR, but it has a wide-flat neck, ala the Gibson 1960 "Slim-Taper". I haven't touched any of the electronics; it came with 500K pots stock, and I like the Super '58s for vintage tone. IMO, build quality is a little better than the Epis, but they're pretty good too.

Lots of great suggestions in this thread. One oddball suggestion--contact subway guitars/fatdawg in Berklee CA, by phone, and see what they can do. Never bought anything from them, but they may be a gem of a place for such a thing, if you dont mind something unique and affordable.

Heritage 535.

Used Gibson 333.

I like the current Ibbys too if low budget is key. Neck is a little small and flat for me, but they are built well with proper materials and the beefed up heel joint helps with stability on the skinny neck.

I liked the Ibanez but this one got me.
Epi es-339 pro
Push pull split coils and a little smaller than the dots and 355's.
less than $400 with a hard case --gently used

The older Epi Dots would fit the bill. The one I've got is from 2000, and has a fat neck and a 12" radius. They come up for dirt cheap on craigslist.

A few stores are discounting the last of the Fender-made Guild Starfire IV's, good price and a good guitar, made in the U.S. I think. They sold Guild lately, so the last of the Fender/Guilds are going for cheaper prices. Just a suggestion.

I know, I know...personal preference and all - IYO: What would you pick? I prefer fat necks, large frets and my favorite radius (radii?) is 12". Shoot.
I have an Epiphone Dot Studio that has a HUGE D neck, huge frets, a 12" radius.

I spent a hundred or 2 spicing it up (new pots, switch, nut, bridge, pickups, jack) and now it's a high quality box.

Spec-wise, it's perfect for you.

Re: "Best bang for the buck" semi-hollow?

I'm curious how huge that Dot Studio neck actually is. I've never played an Epi with a big neck, even those that are advertised as having big necks (like the Casino 50th Anniversary model). I'd be happy if there was one that actually was huge.

I also didn't think the Dot Studios came with huge frets, certainly no more huge than any other Epi. How wide are they exactly?

I'll try and get some neck and fret measurements for you guys.
