Best brand of locking tuners for Strat?

I'd like to consider getting a set of locking tuners to replace the cheapo stock ones on my Strat. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, do I have to get minis. or regular sized for a 6-in-line setup? Is there a brand that blows all others out of the water, or is it all just personal preference? Cheers!

I put these on my Tele. I like'em.

I don't have much of a preference...I bought Sperzels for my Strat-head. I'm sure functionality is about the same with all locking tuners. It's about looks for me. Kluson or Grovers for my Gibsons, Sperzels for my Fenders.

Re: Best brand of locking tuners for Strat?

I like the Grovers because they don't have a lock screw. They have the internal cam.

I like Sperzels. I have always had good luck with them. They also seem to weigh less than most other brand locking tuners that I've installed for clients. Keeping the mass down as much as possible is better for tone IMO.

I like Schallers better than Sperzels, but I haven't tried the Grovers...they seem cool.

someone ever tryed those LSR tuner??? 1:40 ratio gear and look cool (depending on the guitar they are mounted) but to me fragile too.
btw, i'm in love with sperzel locking.

How about those Steinberger 40:1 tuners? Anyone ever considered those? You don't see them much, and they don't come cheap (99 dollars at MusicYo.com). They were once stock on a Steinberger guitar with a headstock. They work gearless, they work with a screw thread on the inside. Very clever, and sooo simple!

Re: Best brand of locking tuners for Strat?

A guy I know from another forum that has a set of them on a Les Paul.
He said they rip! Easy to install, easy to tune, and they keep the string in tune as well as anything else he's had as far as tuners.

As far as other lockers, it's more personal preference than one being better than the others. I like Schallers myself, they seem just a little smoother than Sperzels to me. I also have some of the Kluson style lockers on my Les Paul and those work pretty well.

Re: Best brand of locking tuners for Strat?

I like Schallers and I have them on 2 of my current guitars, they work real well. Nothing against Sperzels but I like the look of chrome and never saw chrome Sperzels.

I prefer the brushed finish, but I have chrome Sperzels on one of my strats.
