This is for a stratocaster with a Floyd Rose. I want to emulate the tone of Van Halen, ACDC, ZZ Top, etc. The wiring will involve a 250k volume with no tone control. I was thinking towards a Custom Custom, but I'm worried how that will work with the 250k pot as I hear they can be a bit loose in the bass, so I considered swapping out a magnet with UOA5, but then I'm worried the split output won't match the neck (said guitar has a mod for neck and bridge split).

vh, ac/dc and billy from zz top pretty much are known for their bridge humbucker tones into marshall amps. what amp are you working with?

The venue I play most often has a Marshall DSL100H head and I forget what the cabinet was, but I tend to play more modest combo amps at home. So just consider through a "Marshally" amp, as that is what I like in amps.

Go with '59/Custom hybrid, has tight low end, works well with 250k pot, and great for split.

I was originally considering the custom hybrid, but the issue with that is if I split it to the custom coil, it wouldn't be hum cancelling with the neck.
EDIT: Actually I can deal with the hum issue, but aren't the hybrids a bit loose in the base? How would they sound with an A2?

I like the Hybrid, too. I don't think the bass sounds loose, like a Custom Custom. I would try it with the stock magnet first, though. The Hybrid sounds wonderful though hot rodded Marshall amps, too. It has enough treble for the ZZ stuff, yet rocks enough for VH.

Man! You got an amazing pickup combination, very similar to the one I have. I have a JB (Trembucker) in the bridge position and I can get all those tones, and more!

I wouldn't get too worried about the custom custom being too loose in the low end, it's not like you're playing metal that requires a super tight, aggressive low end.

This is true. It doesn't do percussive, tight chugging, but everything up to that is really great.

Hi,
I use a 59/custom in the bridge and a TwangBanger in the middle of one of my Strats. In the other a fairly hot 9K with an A8 magnet in the bridge and a TwangBanger in the neck of my other Strat.
So both use only 2 pickups per guitar. The TwangBanger I have been in love with as my favorite Strat p'up. It has a copper plate so at 8K it still has a great sparkle.
The moral of the story is that my 59/Custom sounds so great with a fairly hot single coil, it is my main stage guitar. The one with the TBanger in the middle. There is no tone I cannot get with my 59/Custom Bridge pickup with my s.coil p'up in either position. Get the 59/custom. I am 63, and have been searching for the right bridge and combo for 47 years now. The pickup can do anything, and plays extremely well with others.
And I sweated blood deciding on this pickup. Just ask Mincer or Lt. Kojak, and many smart people on this forum who helped me.
Good luck, you can't lose, you know what you want, so that is 2/3 of the way there. Oh, the 59/Cust. cleans up nicely!
