Best cab sim?

Re: Best cab sim?

Yeah, IRs can get expensive...but they can radically change your tone, and there are a ton of free ones out there, too. Let us know how the Red Box worked. I think I have v2. It is OK I guess...maybe the new version is better. Looking forward to your review.

Re: Best cab sim?

Redbox 5 report:

So all good. I wired it up two ways:

1. As expected, Speaker Cab through, and out to mixer. All good. Used -26db setting.
2. Just using Slave Out to Redbox, and then to the mixer. All good - no real difference (to my ears) in the sound. Used 0 db setting (no surprise...)

I personally think I'm gonna use the Slave out. That lets me set my main stage volume, and then there is an out level adjust on the Slave Out for additional level tweaking to the board.

I selected Tight/Modern/Large for the cab selection. Sounded just fine to me. I am certain that Digitech or some other Uber-box could be dialed in as good as(or maybe even better than) my actual cab. But again - this is a Live Hair Metal band. Cinderella, Ratt, and Poison really don't call for the nuance....

All in all, perfectly functional, $99, and I'm very pleased. I may experiment a bit, but for now, this is cool.

Thanks for all the suggestions. FYI - I also have a Mooer DI coming for my mini-emergency board. Obviously don't need it since I have the Redbox, but mini board is super handy. Like a total backup JIC.

Gig Report:

Used the Redbox last night and it worked great. I had the opportunity to walk out off the stage (see Wireless WL-20 thread in Pedal Board) and give a listen. Sounded just fine. Got a tone compliment from another guitar player listening to the house mix, so....

Only comments:
1. I used a One Spot for power - But question: how long would a 9v last in there?
2. I might add a little tape / velcro to the bottom

Otherwise I'll be using this for a long time.

Re: Best cab sim?

It will run off phantom power won't it? Can the soundman just turn on phantom power for that line?

Re: Best cab sim?

Why yes it will.

However, our drummer uses phantom for his headset mic, and every he plugs in/out, we turn it on/off. Using power takes one mystery factor out of the equation.

"Why isn't there any guitar?????" Oh yeah - drummer is hitting on someone's girlfriend at the bar....turn the phantom on.

Re: Best cab sim?

So on the board you guys are using, phantom power is either on or off, not assignable per channel?

Re: Best cab sim?

Sorry, just a drummer joke, sounds like a talented guy, and yeah, in that case, whatever he wants!
