Best Cases?

in particualr Strat/ Tele cases. I've read where the Golden Gate (G&G?)/ Fender case quality leaves a lot to be desired. There is another case I've heard of that is supposed to be better, however I cannot recall the brand. Maybe I should go vintage for the case?
I have a special guitar I am looking for a premium quality case.

Re: Best Cases?

I think the new waterproof SKB cases are pretty good. Heavier than the standard -66, but they have wheels and TSA locks. If I was doing a no-fly tour (car or bus) I would probably opt for these, especially for my Gibsons. I have several of the G&G cases that came with my G&Ls, and they are very nice, good for weekend gigging, but I would want something more protective for touring.

Re: Best Cases?

I certainly welcome the discussion of all cases, including flight type - I guess they call it- Anvil and such , but I am looking for a traditional hard shell case.

Re: Best Cases?

Buy a Charvel San Dimas/ So Cal, sell that MIJ POS, then keep the case. The design is futuristic not plain like Ibanez one; and the lock has TSA written on it.

Re: Best Cases?

If I were looking to fill those requirements I'd go with the antipodean contingent and look at Hiscox cases.

This isn't a secks forum.

but i just got what i could find was the only Hiscox Fender case in the USA. It was 299.00, but i used 55 bucks in ebay bucks, and got 23.00 in ebay bucks from a coupon, so in essence I paid ~225.00 for it. Not too bad considering. Only hope it doesnt turn out to be a glorified SKB. I realized really was not looking for the vintage Fender/ G & G style in this particular case. At this price , this is definitely one ya don't want the Cat to s******* in!

Thanks all.;

Re: Best Cases?

Better be a Helluva guitar...

The guitar is my magnum opus modern assembly. Everything a vintage Strat is not, in a good way. One thing is just did notice is that cheap strap holding the case open, like all of such straps, breaks quickly and the case falls open. Oh well, I guess it ain't any worse than any other , and probably better in most respects than the SKB- least I hope so. Even the messed up dorty used up Hiscox ones go for close to a hundred bucks used, so I'm good wit it..

Re: Best Cases?

Gator makes some serious heavy duty cases that are TSA approved but not made of wood, so they aren't super heavy. I hate lugging around heavy cases. I have hard cases for a few of my guitars, but I usually just use gigbags.
