Best Cheapie/Sleeper Pickups?

Re: Best Cheapie/Sleeper Pickups?

The GFS Vintage '59 is obvious enough.....

Dream 90 is sort of like a Phat Cat

Crusader is quite obviously an Invader

There are singles that are supposed to be like a Cool/Hot Rails and a 1/4 Pounder. I'm not quite sure how they are not getting suied of a couple of these blatant attempts at copying SD.

Mighty Mite Motherbucker. Very hot, very very nice sound, very low price.

I paid 40 bucks for 2

Re: Best Cheapie/Sleeper Pickups?

I have a pair of GFS Rails, a Lil Hot Puncher and the Modern Vintage Tele Neck.

I don't find them a copy of the HotRails at all, not nearly as hot or thick, and no one else is making a Tele Neck rails. They are supposed to emulate Bardens, but I can't compare as I've never played Bardens...

The stock pup in my Performance guitar totally kicks ass in the mid-gain department.

I bought an Ibanez SB1 from a Reb Beach model for dirt cheap that sounds amazing in the neck of my Strat.

That would probably be because SD is above that :cool3:

In any case, I think the stock 'buckers that came in my SZ several years back were pretty good, they just didn't have everything that I wanted at the time. Of course, I've become much more knowledgable about pickups now so maybe I should give them another go?

I like the Ibanez V7 (humbucker, neck only) that comes in my RG1550... a bit muddy, but it has an icy smooth tone that is great for fast runs. Not up there with nice Duncans and Dimarzio, but for being stock Ibanez they are very, very good.

The Ibanez V8 (humbucker-bridge) in the other hand... is pure garbage.

I had an early 90's RG550 with a V1 neck(I think) that I liked. I think the V2 was the neck, pulled it for a DD-J though. Never really used the S1 in the middle.
