Best colour for '67 Flying V?

Re: Best colour for '67 Flying V?

When I saw the thread title, I was gonna say "red". Then I read the post.

Off-white is my second choice.

Better answer: "WWWD?" That is, "What would Wattage do?"

I would just like to point out…we have not had a bad suggestion yet.

I like Pelham and cream!

Re: Best colour for '67 Flying V?

IMO the 2 best colors for a 67 V are Black with Mirror Pickguard and Jimi Hendrix Psychedelic paint with a cream pickguard, out of those a neon green burst will be killer for a V

Re: Best colour for '67 Flying V?

Next in line would be natural korina with a white/black/white pickguard.

Just an FYI - here's the offending V I want made over. It's kinda cool, in a corduroy aficionado kinda way. Nonetheless I think it needs a facelift.

Ugh...imho, that guard has got to GO.

I really dug the few silverburst Vs I've seen.

This thread is FULL of good ideas. It's hard to go wrong with one of these. I saw one in orange with an '01' between the pups, once.

Re: Best colour for '67 Flying V?

I like the gold idea, but the simplist is to strip the red and stain the brown. I did that to a faded V once and it looked great.

Re: Best colour for '67 Flying V?

Just replace the pick guard with either a solid black or solid white one.

Re: Best colour for '67 Flying V?

I've got a Gibson faded V in the '67 style. Not really a fan of the factory red stain look - i've been planning to respray it in late Feb when summer is in full swing (g'day from Australia). The plan all along has been to spray it white, but i'm now wondering if there's better options... colours that really made a V pop... whether tastefully conservative or boldly in-yo-face.

What do you guys think is the best colour for a '67 style V?

That red stain can be a real ***** to get out of the wood and the white that you put over a properly prepared surface will tend to pull a lot of the stain out of the wood making your white appear pink and blotchy. I would consider leaving it alone or go natural with maybe a tongue oil finish.
