Best Distortion?

Re: Best Distortion?

nothing beats tube amp distortion!!!

but two pedals i would consider for distortion would be the G2D Morpheus and the Damage Control Demonizer. perhaps a mesa v-twin but i'd take either of the other two over it and put it 3rd on my list i guess. .

and remeber...just say NO to the boss metalzone!!!

What do u think is wrong with it?????????????

Re: Best Distortion?

for the money, you cant do better than a DS-1 modded by STRATDELUXER. or, since you got a free MetalZone, send it to STRATDELUXER and see if he can mod it for you.

like i said, for the money, you cant go wrong. i personally think that price aside, my modded ds-1 sounds every bit as good as some of the expensive pedals out there.

but overall, a cranked tube amp is gonna give you the best sound.

Re: Best Distortion?

Hughes and Kettner Tube Factor, Okko Diablo, Menatone Red Snapper
Why? Because they're all really transparent and they pretty much pin a needle up every non high gain amp's ass making them scream

Re: Best Distortion?

A good amp!!!! If one needs to run a pedal to get good tone, they need to save their money for a good amp!!!!

Re: Best Distortion?

I currently use a Digitech RP21D that has a built in tube preamp and I removed the stock 12AX7-WA for a Sovtek 12AX7-LPS and I must say that the distortion sound is amazing now and you can really tweak your distorion sounds with one of these. I have 4 distortions set up now. One if for blistering "death metal" tones. Another one is for a "Marshally" sounding crunch and the other two are set up for boosting mids and highs on leads. These boards are awesome if you can get your hands on one. I grabbed mine off some guy for $200, he originally asked for $350. They were around $700 retail when they first came out. If you can find one a EBAY you can probably get one cheap. Just grab yourself a Sovtek 12AX7-LPS tube or if you're really looking for the best try looking for a (NOS) JAN-Phillips 12AX7.

I also recommend the Line 6 Uber Metal pedal. It's an awesome distortion pedal with great features and built extremely well.

What Do you guys think is the best distortion pedal you can get?
Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz...

I've even labeled the 6 tweak functions so that it makes it easier for me to use.

1. Fuzz
2. Classic
3. Grunge
4. Metal
5. Death!
6. NEVER!

I know every tweak is actually fuzz, but this helps with my own personal use of the pedal.

Those are words of tone wisdom. Obviously the guitar and pickups, play a huge role in this as well.

However I have had good luck with a few pedals:
Zvex Fuzz Factory is an absolute blast. Zachary Vex is a tone genius.
Rocktron Silver Dragon is good for a thick, Metal distortion. Has a tube in the pedal to keep the distortion "organic" sounding.
Zoom Tri-Metal can get you close to the Mesa "Buzzsaw" distortion. This pedal is no longer made, but check out Ebay.

I would agree that a good cranked amp with a good pedal to push it a little harder is the way to go for the best possible tone!
