Best Distressed Guitars? Road Worn Guitars?

Re: Best Distressed Guitars? Road Worn Guitars?

Well, apart from the fact that acidwashed jeans are relics themselves even without holes, guitars get better with age, not worse. So in that regard having something that doesn't necessarily look dead mint (and therefore immune to the new car syndrome) and plays a bit nicer with a 'broken in' neck feel too can be a great way to make you play much more.

Checkout MJT Aged Finishes if you want authentic looking relics done to your own taste.

Pretty sure its not for sale but I'm a fan of John Frusciante's sunburst strat

Re: Best Distressed Guitars? Road Worn Guitars?

Okay, I like em and I know they is a tiny bit cheesy, like NEW acid washed jeans with holes. What are the best ones?

The best ones are real. I mean guitars with some age, made of old wood, that have been played for years already. These have a story to tell. The fake ones do not. I think it is completely ridiculous that people would rather pay someone to scratch & dent a new guitar, than pay someone to restore an already scratched and dented guitar to full function and great playability...

Isn't it "bass ackwards" in most of the cases?

I'm not into relics, but I do own one. To me, the best are found in G&L's Rustic line. #1, they're G&Ls, not Fenders, so looks aside, they're just simply better guitars (IMO). #2, the aging work is nice and light-handed. Here is my Legacy Rustic:

Fenders are hit and miss, you'd do best to try them first. But I've used two Fender roadworn bodies for partsocasters, one of which (the TeleGib) is perhaps the coolest guitar I've ever owned.

MJT (Mark Jenny) makes some really cool stuff as well, he does economy using All Parts (which isn't bad) to higher end Musikraft (really excellent parts).

Here's my two personal Partsocasters using Road Worn bodies with Musikraft necks.

+1 for Wah wah Strat. I am not into buying any BRAND NEW RELIC Guitar. I think that is stupid. But A guitar that is naturally road worn is HEAVY MOJO. Again +1 for WAH WAH Strat ,that's what I am talking about. A good frined of mine purchased a MIJ used some 20 years back that is still his main guitar, it is lightly road worn now I love the look of that guitar. It speaks a lot about the one who uses it.
