Best effects pedal for heavy metal/distortion?

Hi Guys I was wondering IYO which distortion pedal is the best for metal-type distortion?

The question is - what tone are you looking for? with what amp and gear?


I like distorted tube amps... a Tube Screamer or any other good overdrive pedal in front of an already hot amp yields great results.

I really like the MXR Wylde OD for heavy stuff on top of an already dirty amp.

It doesn't work so well for me on a clean amp though.

The best pedal for heavy metal/distortion is the correct amp to do this in the first place.
