To me the LP feels better, weight and all. On the other hand though, a strat always feels nice.

Between the two, I'd pick the Strat for ergonomics. While I like the Les Paul's tone better, the Strat is lighter, easier to customize/replace parts, and is much cheaper. It's also a lot easier (for me anyway) to reach the upper frets on a Strat than a Les Paul.

I have a strat-shape, a les paul and a ibanez RG, and i find the RG most easy on my hand and shoulders, and superior when sitting, but i realise the thin neck can put some people right off. I guess the guy who said the JEM is probably correct, like my RG, but with a handy carry handle :laugh2:

I learnt to play on a LP knock off. Then switched to fenders selling that black LP custom copy. Was soo heavy.

Nonetheless, when I bought a LP standard like 7 years later, well let me tell you it was like coming home! OK strats are fine, not bad at all, but I think I am a LP man at heart!

I would have to say the Stratocaster is pretty much the ergonomic winner here. I do like that dark Les Paul tone, but my fender has a pretty nice tone now after all of the modifications I have done. The SG is pretty ergonomic, but I found that it lacked the tone of the Les Paul, so I would pick a Strat over it.

i have both, but as as far as basic ergos, the Strat has a slight edge. It was apparently designed for drunk country players bcause it has a cutaway for a beer belly (which most of us older guys probably have) and you don't have to remember to turn the tuners for G, B, and high E in the opposite direction when tuning on the fly in a hazy state....lol:bigthumb:

I prefer to play gibson style guitars . . . I think the necks usually feel better for me, but ergonomics-wise, a strat is very comfortable either standing or sitting. I have to vote strat . . . all the hard edges are smoothed out on them . .

IMO,

I think that neither of them are perfect, because they were developed in a time when people hardly knew what guitars were.

Don't get me wrong, but I think that modern day companies have designed better guitar models they've merged the two designs together and have made it better.

Like PRS, Dean, or Music Man.



I'm not trying to bash the LP or Strat; they're both great.

But not the best.

I think the tele has the best basic design and is the most playable, no middle coil, easiest higher fret access.

The LP is a nightmare from an ergonomics standpoint, however the neck plays like butter because of the shorter scale, the higher fret access is a nightmare due to the heel, and its just ridiculously bulky & heavy. It does look cool, though, it's a real "macho" guitar.

If it didn't sound so damn good nobody would play it!

Best neck ergonomics: Hagstrom.
Best overall ergonomics: Gibson SG.

I think the best overall ergonomics is the 335. High fret access is not THE very best but it's definitely up there, plus as a bigger guy, the 335 is the best sit-down guitar there is because it's wide enough from the treble side to the bass side to rest my whole upper body on it when I'm tired without hair-pinning my spine.

I really don't understand some people's complaint about LP weight. It doesn't feel very heavy to me and mine weighs in at about 9.5.

I voted other. I don't think either a strat or les paul is very ergonomic. I personally think the most ergonomic body style is the Jazzmaster/jaguar. And its also got better high fret access than a strat, or Lp.

i will say that a strat looks/feels better on the whole..., but a les paul overall can sound really good i gues it depends on the guitar, the plaeyer, the amp, the strings and even how the room in which its placed to how things work out actaully
