best guitar for classicrock/blues???

what are all you opinions on the best guitar for classic rock/blues, and their duncan counterpartssome that would seem obvious to me

strat w/ ssl 1 or 2. or antiq - jimi, srv, and clapton all used em
es 335 style , w/ ??? - george thoreougood used them, as did others
tele ??

what else is common/popular/works for blues/classic rock. also what woods? thanks...

I really love my Gibson Les Paul Standard with SD Antiquities.

I get a great vintage tone that is heavenly. My neck pup rules for that thick bluesy overdriven tone. Set clean, it's nice and warm, but articulate. The whole setup works great for blues, jazz, and classic rock. It can do modern rock pretty well too.

However, I'm starting to really like Telecasters and I'm sure there will be a lot of people that will say that single coils really do blues the best. Just messing with some Teles, I have to admit that I am leaning towards them for blues and classic rock (of course, by classic rock, I'm not talking about bands like Iron Maiden, I'm talking about the Rolling Stones ) .

I'd say a Stratocaster w/t a humbucker in the bridge will cover most
Classic rock to blues tones. My Fav is Lil'59er (bridge) SSL-1 (mid)
APS- II (neck) I played in a classic rock/blues band with this PuP
setup w/t a tubescreamer ,Wah into a Fender Twin. Got every sound
I needed from Hendrix/ SRV to Allman's /Skynyrd to straight out blues.
Even did some Chili pepper's and Foo Fighter's.

Hmm how about one of those Highway1 strats with the big 70's headstock and SSH pickup layout??
Replace the pickups with SSL-1's and a 59 or a Demon in the bridge and you ought to do just fine

there are soooo many different styles of classic rock and blues that you really cant pin-point one guitar for all of them. try them all out, then see which one suits your version of the sound u want best.

LP or a good LP clone, with SD pups. I like a '59 in the neck and a Custom in the bridge of my Yamaha SG, covers a lot of ground.

A Les Paul through a Marshall is very hard to beat for great classic rock tone..When you start to require more articulation or note clarity for doing SRV,clean Jimi,Robert Cray blues things,you find that a strat is pretty much the best way to get it..The les paul just doesn't do the SRV thing at all..I Like a strat and a Tele for pretty much everything I need to play,with the strat being first and the most versatile...For old Cream,Zeppelin,Sabbath,Thin Lizzy,Bad Co.,Allman Brothers,etc..classic rock stuff that's heavy,the LP is king! :13:

classicrock/blues = Les Paul

Have to agree there...the next best thing IMO is a Tele-Gib...covers all the bases except the Strat thing, which is why I have one too.

Right now, I don't think I can get ultimate blues tone from one single guitar.

I love my Les Paul but I just don't get the blues tone I want from the neck pickup.. then I play my tele, with a strat pickup in the neck position, and.... ahhhhh that's the stuff

I have a custom phat cat on order for my LP neck.. hopefully it will have some of that single coil sweetness that I like in the tele.

I agree with Stevo in that 1 guitar can't do everything,however if I had to pick one guitar to do most of it,It'd be a strat..
Probably my texas hot loaded strat or one of my others with series/split/parallel duncan in the bridge and a set of SSL1s or APS1s...The strat has the most going for it though in terms of overall versatility hands down! :13:

My choice is an American Deluxe Fat Strat. The noiseless pick up are so quiet and got a good tone for lots of style. That's my favorite.

The Les Paul is hard to beat, but the Tele is really versatile, and can be made to sound like a Les Paul.

how about a totally non-versatile guitar that only cranks out the blues, or classic rock? id think strat w/ ssl-1's no?

my godin is quite versatile, the 59 gives me paul tones, the classic stack - strat, and the JB covers the rest. i am out of luck for tele tones tho...

I believe that for the utimate versatility a Gibson with duncan pickups wired for single coil use in the neck and bridge with a series connection selector would give you all you need rock the blues.

For me it comes down to 2 guitars:

Les Paul with Seths/Antiquities/PG's/A2P's etc

Fender Strat with Antiquity Texas Hots as they just sound so sweeeeeet in a Strat
