I need your opinions on what you feel is the best guitar that fits the need for someone who plays rhythm, but also alot of soloing. I have a co worker here saying that Fernandez is the answer hands down, but in my opinion Fernandez guitars were more for soloists. please give me your opinions, and why. appreciate the fuel to reply to my buddy here.

Could it be ... Midget Koala's Ghost?

You can use just about any guitar to play anything you want wether it's an ibby or gibby or fendy or anything else under the sun. But just for the sake of answering your question I say either a strat or tele.

Well, you can't play rhythm on an Ibanez, and you obviously can't play solos on a Les Paul. Maybe try to find an Ibanez with 22 frets, since that means they're made for rhythm.

Nope nope note for rhythm you need 24 inch scale so what you need is a 24 inch scale 30 fret guitar so you play rhythm AND solo.

Whichever guitar feels good and sounds good for both. You can't go too wrong with one of the classic, enduring models: Tele/Esquire, Strat, Les Paul carved top, Les Paul flat top, 335, SG.

In this case, I would have thought the player's musical genre might better dictate the choice, or at least narrow the options down a bit. What style(s) of music does your friend usually play, or aspire to play ?

Any guitar. I think Ibanezes get a rep for being soloing guitars because they have super thin necks. I use a 335 copy for most of my rhythm tracks, and an Epiphone SG for the two leads that I play.

Single coils for rhythm and humbuckers for solos.

Simple. It's the guitar that they like best.

Not so much as a hint of sarcasm from Jessie! :D

In my area, there are two brothers who go about, pontificating on matters such as this. Once, in the local guitar shop, they told the Saturday boy that one should only play slap style on a twenty one fret bass guitar. I soooooooooo wanted to show them my old fretless Fender Precision.
