Best Guitar/pickup set for Fusion...

you know, just this week i was thinking about buying a variax...with warmoth making bodies and necks, and some of the conversions i have seen on the line6 forum, im pretty much sold. which one do you have?

I had a 500 model. Honestly, I liked my Variax. The Sitar was really cool and the models were nice. After mine broke down, I became very skiddish about them. If your wiring goes in your regular guitar, you can prablably have it fixed in a matter of minutes. If the Variax breaks, you're dead in the water. BTW, I do like the 700 model. It's a real player but a lot more expensive...

I think Al DiMeola's sound on his early solo LP's is the ****! An LP Standard with DiMarzio's, argggggggghh it kills me to say that!!!!

Yeah, I am thinking of the 500, but eventually transplanting the guts into a Warmoth body. As far as it breaking, I guess you take the chance on any technology...I know the 300 is a great choice to transplant, but not such a great guitar to start out with.

Re: Best Guitar/pickup set for Fusion...

if i had unlimited fundage, i'd have that jeff (not scott) miller guy build me one of his variax transplant / true electric hybrids

Yeah, the 500 is a great guitar; especially if you're not going to transplant for awhile...

All are Variax conversions....

Re: Best Guitar/pickup set for Fusion...

yeah, his work is quite amazing...i hear the 500 is a pain to convert, but im afraid if i settle for the 300, i will be unhappy with the guitar itself- so that i won't want to play it, much less convert it.

Okay, but I want to know what guitar to put them in....

lol -- sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude or snotty. I don't have a particular suggestion for the guitar itself! There are a lot of good choices out there and I'm not a big fan of h-s-h stlye guitars.

Re: Best Guitar/pickup set for Fusion...

I've been getting pretty nice fusion tones (but not the playing ;) ) from my strat since I put the DiMarzio Air Zone/PAF Pro setup in it. It would sound even smoother with a rosewood board I'm sure.
