Best Heavy Metal Amp

Re: Best Heavy Metal Amp

Peavey solid states are durable, great sounding amps (relative to competive amps)....and there are lots of used amps in great shape and at low prices. The older ones are US built and need little more than a good cleaning once in a while.

Re: Best Heavy Metal Amp

do you think Vox amps are better for more genres than metal? I'd like to have ability to play whatever I'm in the mood for. I ask this because I was reading reviews for the Line6 I just posted and almost all the reviewers were metal players, and while I like to play a lot of metal I want to keep my options open. Thanks for all the help so far by the way.

IMO, Line 6 is better for heavy distortion where the Vox stuff has alot better cleans and slightly dirty tones.

Re: Best Heavy Metal Amp

whats better overall, for someone who mainly plays metallica, iron maiden, A7Xish stuff, but also like a little Clapton and Hendrix here and there?

Vox makes two diff models of that modelling amp that i posted in post #

You get the AD series that is more "regular" amp modellings, and some modern hi-gain simmulations, and then the XL series.
They look the same, except that the XL's are total black, to indicate their darker, sinister bature, ase they concentrate on the heavier amps out there, but have the same modulation features as the AD series.

We have an AD at church, but i really prefer the black XL for metal, and it if the gain is turned down, can do a mean blues tone in sooo many amp config's !

Re: Best Heavy Metal Amp

And Slow Groove forgot to mention the new VT Series, which is a pretty even balance of classic rock amps and modern metal sounds.

The Valvetronix VT's are the best modeling amps I've played, and i work in a guitar shop where every single model of every single line of modeling amps are for sale from Vox, Peavey, and Line 6...for whatever that's worth.

Re: Best Heavy Metal Amp

so i think its down to the Vox Valvetronix AD100VT-XL 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp and the Line6, now i just gotta try out the Vox

Re: Best Heavy Metal Amp

man if you can get the 100w Valvetronix for $200 then you'll have all the amp you need until your record deal.

Re: Best Heavy Metal Amp

Oh haha when I read the title I was getting ready to drop the Bogner Uberschall bomb! Gotta say though, I like this thread idea way better. I think the Peavey Transtube style amps are pretty good for the money, but really, really I'd say save up just a bit more and buy used. You won't get a Two-Rock but you'll find something nice. Good luck on the gear search man!!

Re: Best Heavy Metal Amp

Yeah man, that XL is an amazing deal for all the amp you get. Tons of models / modes, more power than you'll ever need, basic built-in effects...ROCK AND ROLL.

Re: Best Heavy Metal Amp

Thread title of "best heavy metal amp" and then "I'm willing to spend about 200 bucks btw".
That simply does not computer:laugh2:

Re: Best Heavy Metal Amp

I'm gonna try the Vox and see what its like before I decide to buy it. Thanks for all the help here everyone.
