Best High Gain distortion pedals

Re: Best High Gain distortion pedals

I own the Tube Zone and Crunchbox. The Tube Zone will do the Mesa Boogie sound no problem, plenty of gain but not to "Death Metal" extremes. The TZ is also very flexible, you can get a ton of sounds from it, low to high gain. As previously stated, the CB is balls to the wall Marshall, slightly more gain than the TZ.

Cheers,

CJ

so which one do you like more? So the crunchbox has MORE gain?

The Zoom Tri-metal is also a nice choice if you are looking for a straight up heavy and cutting high gain distortion tone. The Radial Hot British and Mi Crunch Box if you are looking for a more marshall flavored gain tone. I"m actually curious if anybody has tried the mesa V-twin or the distortus maximus....

I prefer the CB only because I favor Marshall tones. It does have a little more gain than the TZ, but the TZ still has enough gain to be called a distortion, it just happens to do overdrive really well too. The TZ is more flexible where the CB is voiced to be high gain Marshall all the way.

Re: Best High Gain distortion pedals

i had a tube zone and i will flat out say skip it, it's not right for what you want neither is the Crunch Box. they both rock for what they are but i wouldn't for a second consider either one for what you want. the CB does good 80s metal and rock and marshall-esq tones and the TZ is pretty good as a distortion but much better as an OD in front of a pushed amp neither IMO is right for you.

i'm not a big fan of distortion from a pedal but if i had to do it it would be...

(random order)
G2D Morpheus
Damage Control Demonizer
Metal Muff (full size)
Mesa V-Twin (you asked how to get one....ebay)
