This is from my previous post on the 59N pickup, sounding real Bassy in the neck spot. Its really annoying, and I just cant figure it out why its like this.
I have a PG in the Bridge which is thin sounding.
Looking for a nice sparkly clean, brown bluesy sound with a OD pedal.
How about a poll on this,What do you think is the best humbucker for the neck spot on a Strat?whats working for you?
Any other options?
Thanx Alot

I had a PG in the neck of my double fat strat, and ultimatly swapped it out for an APH-1. I find it much more balanced, with a great clean tone, and a sweet singing lead voice. This is my number 1 pick for a neck bucker. The Seth Lover is a close 2nd.

I like the PGN in the neck of my Fender Japan Strat, but aside from the Japanese HB the guitar came with, the PGn is the only humbucker I've tried in that guitar so I can't comment from experience on how a 59N would sound in that guitar.

Generally tho, at rock volumes, I find the 59n to have a little to much boom to the bass. At lower volumes, the 59n sounds killer to me.

At loud, rock volumes, I tend to like A2 humbuckers for the neck position: less boom to the bass and easier for me to get a clear tone for chords.

I have the A2 Tom Holmes in my Les Paul, the A2 PGn in my Strat and the A2 Seth Lover Neck in my Hamer Monoco.

A2 refers to alnico 2 magnet. I just included that info for those who may not know what magnet is standard in the pickups I mentioned. Lew

APH-1 -- After players heard the Alnico II Pro™ single-coil models, many asked for that same sweetness in a humbucker version. The only way to get that sound is to use the Alnico II musical magnets with a new coil winding. The result is a warm, sweet tone with more natural string vibration for great sustain.

Other neck humbuckers that have Alnico II magnets, and different winding, or voicings are:

Pearly Gates
Seth Lover
Antiquity

I also like A2 magnets for the neck position.

What type of configuration are you using first of all? HSH?HSS? If you are HSS, then I like the JB Jr. No questions. Very versatile. It can be boomy but you can eq that out and no routing problems either.

If you are playing something like the Double Fat Strat, why not use the SH-2 Jazz Humbucker. That pickup works well with just about anything I play aside from really heavy metal or dropped tunings. If I were to play that stuff, I wouldn't play my Strat anyway. Ibanez RG with a Wizard II for that Ish. :)

Antiquity neck hb, with no mods at all! It is soft, yet it cuts through, and on the neck of a strat (a little brighter than a LP neck position) that helps a lot. Ants under pick attack bloom and chime. So wonderful! So does the PG, but the uppermids make it a little more on the aggresive side. That soft bloom, and chime of ants is to die for.

Second the APH-1 in the neck.

I gotta echo whoever recommended the Alnico Pro II's. Got them in my Strat and love em!

By the way, great avatar TattooedCarrot!
