For vintage 50's or 60's Strat tone SSL-1's are a great pickup at a great price.
Mark Knopfler didn't use them in his old Strat...but they're a close copy of what would have come in a vintage Strat. The Duncan Surfer would be even closer seeing as its based on a 1962 Strat pickup.
But some insist that Mark had a Dimarzio in his Strat!
As I said above, Knopfler had Duncan's in one of his Schecter's. I clearly remember that he has told it in an interview 35 years ago and it's still mentioned here:
You should aim for an early 60's strat tone. I think the Suhr V60 (vintage peak verson) pickups have it in spades. The Suhr magnet stagger gives sweet souding string balance and vintage tone.
