Best Knopfler Pickups?

Re: Best Knopfler Pickups?

Get a vinatge voices Strat, Les Paul, or a PRS and play like him.

Re: Best Knopfler Pickups?

So the SL-1s are like the most Knopfler sounding pickups? And also: didn't David from Pink Floyd also use SL-1s?

For vintage 50's or 60's Strat tone SSL-1's are a great pickup at a great price.

Mark Knopfler didn't use them in his old Strat...but they're a close copy of what would have come in a vintage Strat. The Duncan Surfer would be even closer seeing as its based on a 1962 Strat pickup.

But some insist that Mark had a Dimarzio in his Strat!

Doesn't matter. Unless you have Mark Knopfler chops and talent, you're not going to sound like Mark Knopfler.

You should aim for an early 60's strat tone. I think the Suhr V60 (vintage peak verson) pickups have it in spades. The Suhr magnet stagger gives sweet souding string balance and vintage tone.

Why the Apache when the Sultans exist?

1. The Sultans bridge is wound a bit hotter, but the OP won't be using it anyway - so that advantage is gone.

2. I found the Apache slightly more dynamic, with more rounded highs. The warmer neck pup would make it a little more versatile.

3. I find the Apache middle pup much better sounding on its own in my guitar, than i found the Sultans middle on my friend's guitar.

4. Overall, i find the Apache a better bet if you have a brighter sounding guitar and amp.

Just my two cents.
