^ beware the lacquer-over-poly "lacquer taste" finishes though, i've heard they're even worse
If you've got a grand in hand buy the oldest Tokai you an get your hands on...the market is down, 3 to 5 years ago 80's Love Rocks were bringing close to 2k, today I rarely see them break $1000. Some do but more often than not you can pick up a nice mid 80's Love Rock for $600-900.
So, in short, if mixing synthetic and organic finishes is a big no no for you, make sure you don't ever consider any Fender from 1963 through 1985, and even be wary of certain custom colors from before 1963.
Entirely different process, you can't even begin to compare.Theres virtually no similarities in the composition of the final coat of filler and paint.
The way they do it now is to blast a huge enormous amounts of tone stifling Grain fller several Phantoms thick, and then spray that with a a hard thick l 1000 leagues deep Poly( or maybe a cheap coat of Lacquer lke the Highway 1).
The Fullerplast was nothing like the goop they fill the wood with now.Do your homework!![]()
