Whats your favorite pickguard color? Since im changing PU's im going to do a complete wiring on a new guard. Got any color ideas that match well with sunburst? Pearl? Black? It has an "aged" mint white on it now, but im keeping that pickguard as is, in case i ever want to switch back, all i need is a couple of solder tacks.

Re: Best Looking Pickguards!!!!

My favorite is the vintage mint green, but I also really like white pearl and white...Check out Curly's guitar photos on the white pearl guards...

Re: Best Looking Pickguards!!!!

White & black pearl both look great, but I think my fave look with a sunburst finish is tortoiseshell.

Re: Best Looking Pickguards!!!!

Im partial to tortoiseshell and pearl myself. Although in certain cases I like seeing a clear pickguard depending on the body of the guitar. If your guitar is sunburst a tortoiseshell guard will add loads of character to your guitar.

Re: Best Looking Pickguards!!!!

i dont know about the tortoise shell though... that browninsh pearl look doesn't appeal to me that much. I'll probably go with white pearl.

Re: Best Looking Pickguards!!!!

dude that psychadelic flowery **** oin a black guitar (is that a dimebucker? =)) just doesn't work for me, no offense...

Re: Best Looking Pickguards!!!!

On a sunburst I like things to look classy and classic. White, mint green, parchment, aged parchment....something simple. Pearl, tortise and even wilder guards are for different colors IMO.

One of the best looking strats is Gearjonsers special blue finish with the metal plated guard...that thing is one mean looking strat...but it wouldn't look right on a sunburst.

Re: Best Looking Pickguards!!!!

I added a brass pickguard to my Strat, and it gave it a really nice, warm look. I don't polish nearly as much as I should, tho. (Notice that I also removed all the knobs from the guitar to keep myself from accidently brushing my hands against them ...)

Re: Best Looking Pickguards!!!!

It depends on the color. For sunburst with a maple neck, I like a black pickguard. For just about everything else, white or parchment. Mint green looks good on a teal colored strat.

Re: Best Looking Pickguards!!!!

White pearl. I think any 'aged' pickguard is silly...unless it is actually an old guitar. 'Yes you can have the well worn look of a guitar slugging it out in the bars for 30 years!, except, oh, you didn't do the work..' hehe

Re: Best Looking Pickguards!!!!

Another depends on the color vote, but I love a tortoiseshell on a natural or burst finish. I just put a tortoiseshell on my black start & happen to think it looks GREAT!!!

Re: Best Looking Pickguards!!!!

my personal fav is tortoise shell (which i have on my butterscotch blonde strat, its so so sick) but on a sunburst ive always liked black pickguards. a black pickguard would give it that SRV feel.

Here's my reverse metallic blueburst/clear aluminum engine turned guard, Fat 50's, black parts and Graphtechs. This strat now has the exact same guard, only it's an H-S-S with Trem Custom 5/ 2 Fat 50's.

On sunburst, you could use the aluminum engine turned with black plastic parts, or get the Fender BLACK engine turned aluminum guard with aged white plastic parts. At $50 firm, they aren't cheap, but look cool, and don't tarnish or leave finger smudges.
