I am sort of getting hollowbody/semi hollow gas. It must have a chunkier neck profile, 2 buckers, and no damn bigsby! Stopbar TOM only.

Nickel hardware is a bonus!

I've been pretty impressed with the Artcore series from Ibanez. They need new pickups, and the selector switch is in a stupid place, but the build quality is pretty damn solid and *most* of the ones I've played have been nicely resonant.

They even have one in something close to Gretsch Orange, with no Bigsby for $350:

http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--IBAAF75D It's not a TOM bridge, though...

As I have said elsewhere, I made the mistake of playing a Washburn HB-30TB:32:

It was an amazing axe.

Re: Best low buck hollowbody????

My friend has an epi Dot Studio which is pretty awesome, not a chunky profile (more standard) but still a good axe.

Re: Best low buck hollowbody????

I keep meaning to try one or more of those Washburns. They certainly get good buzz around here. I used to own an Epi Sheraton II (fancier 335 Dot clone). It was okay. If I'd been into pickup swapping back then, I might have been able to mold it into a keeper, but alas I wasn't and in stock form I was just never able to get it to inspire me. Plus, that was a semi-hollow, not a hollow, so for this thread, it wouldn't quite fit.

Nah, Semi is cool.

Epiphone's Dot 335 copy is pretty good, I've been pretty impressed with Ibanez' Artcore series, too. Just about bought one the other day. God only knows what I'd have done with it, since I'm all about 12 string these days...

Re: Best low buck hollowbody????

If I thought I would use it enough I would have an HB-35 already...and probably will decide that I need one shortly lol. It's a great guitar, pickups are weak but thats a pretty simple fix. I assume that you would be changing them anyway as I would. I've owned 3 Washburns recently and loved them all. Still have 2, sold one to finance my head.

Re: Best low buck hollowbody????

I'm a big fan of my Epi Dot . . . it's been great to me over the last 5-6 years . . .

Re: Best low buck hollowbody????

I love my Epi's. I have a Sheraton with Phat Cats in it that's held up very well for the past 6 years. I've changed out the tuners and the electronics, but the bridge and tailpiece seem to be OK.

I also have an Alleykat. This one isn't your typical hollowbody. It's built along the same lines as a PRS hollow. Epi tool a solid mahogany body and neck and routed it all out, save for an island where a TOM and tailpiece attach. They then capped it with a flame maple arched top.

I have a SM-1 at the neck and a PG+ in the bridge and I couldn't be happier. I also added a Fishman Powerchip/Powerbridge system. Soundwise, it's on par with a Korean Ovation, which, IMO, isn't bad for something that feels and plays like a LP.

Re: Best low buck hollowbody????

What do you guys think about the ibanez AS103NT ?

It's not epensive but it's not as cheap as an HB-35. I don't know what to make of that!

Do I get the same as an HB-35 with more money, or do i get somethink much better with just a bit more?
