i am currently re-wiring a guitar with a body cavity depth of 1.125"....soooo, my old favorite 5 way switch will not fit :(

do any of you all have any good recommendations for a switch that would work here?

thanks!

I've never tried that particular switch from Kaish, but I've used lots of other switches and jacks from them. They have all been excellent quality, perhaps better than Fender, CRL, Oak Grigsby, or Alpha. Definitely better than the cheapie stuff.

Always wanted to invent switches with side mounted terminals for shallow depths. I run into this problem a lot on custom builds and designs that assume an LP style 3way will do. I prefer blade if possible....the Schaller Megaswitches and Superswitches just makes wiring options fun.

Somewhere around here is a pic I took of the innards of that switch. Weird ball-bearing switch contacts. Cool, unique design. Looks like it would last forever and very smooth operation.

I like the Kaisch switches, too. They feel good and handle abuse. Only downside I've found is that the "baseplate" part is a bit beefier than your average Alpha or Ibanez wafer switch, so I couldn't fit one in my Ibby S-Style.The S'es have that weird rounded plastic cover for the switch, and it's designed to handle a thinner and narrower plate.

Yup. The reason I have one sitting around is because I bought it for a carved-top Schecter that has the same issue.

About 1 1/8". Maybe leave 1 1/4" to account for solder.

that is SO CLOSE to what i need. is there room on the other side for the lugs to bend down just a little? i am 1 1/8" cavity depth; if i could bend the lug a little, to keep the solder from protruding past 1 1/8", i think i could make that work

You've got a teensy bit of wiggle room, but not much. If you were careful, you should be able to make that work. In a moment, I'll make another post with another possible solution.

I have an oddball 5-way that I removed from a customers guitar that needed a superswitch. I think this came from a Washburn, but it's been a long time ago. The switch is only 1 1/32" deep, and the terminal come out of the side. One of the cool things about this switch is that you can simply remove two 3/16 (5mm) nuts, and have full access to the contacts so that they can be burnished or polished. I've polished these and treated them with Deoxit. This thing could last forever.

If you live in the US, shipping, with a "bubble" envelope, would probably only run $5 - $6. Round it up to $10, (to cover a beer :beerchug:), and it's yours. Remember, it's a "used" part. Just a thought.

that is very cool!! and thanks so much for your offer; if neither of the switches i ordered work out, i may take you up on your offer!

i do have a question regarding that switch: it appears to have 7 lugs, i am assuming that it is akin to an 8 lug with the common lugs bridged....do i understand that correctly?

thanks!

More or less, yes. The center is the common. It connects to the left/right outer three as I show in that first diagram with the red lines.

What about individual mini toggles for each pup? Depending on what configuration you get, you can come up with a lot of interesting wiring options...

Success! I went with the alpha 5 way. Wired in a ibanez hsh 5 way style with a split to the inner coils of the humbuckers. Not my finest work, by far; this tiny cavity was really difficult to work in....the instrument sounds amazing now; super stoked. Thanks to everyone for your input; it really helped me get this sorted
