Best LP Bridge P'up Thus Far (IMHO)

Re: Best LP Bridge P'up Thus Far (IMHO)

For anyone who wants the sound of a 59 - or anything in the vintage-y output realm - I always steer them to the APH1s

Amazing pups. My only complaint is they don't have the output to slam an amp in the front end (WHEN NEEDED). Otherwise, amazing pup.s

what magnet did you put in it?

The one in use now is an A5. I also have an A2, but I need to build a guitar for it. :)

I have, what I consider, a very high gain amp--Voodoo Amps modded JCM800. So I can get some pretty good crunch out of them. In a colder amp I may not like them as much, but I'd venture to say I can cover metal territory pretty well. Not my first choice for Slayer...but it holds up in less intense situations.

An Antiquity with an a4 or a5 magnet is a fantastic bridge pup in a LP. Those unbalanced coils deliver a really nice hollow cluck when you hit the strings. I love that.

Lollar Imperials are also great. The bridge pup is so clear and articulate. Very sensitive to height adjustments, and sounds great with the tone and/or volume rolled off.

Wolfe Macleod (Wolfetone pickups) makes some great pups. For $50, he'll rewind a humbucker you send him...to your preference. I think he charges $30 for a single-coil. And if it's not quite to your liking, he'll do it again till it's right for you, at no charge. That's a pretty nice deal for someone who has some dead or otherwise unused pups laying around. He told me he prefers pups with good components to work with. He doesn't work with Dimarzios. I sent a set of Classic 57s that I picked up cheap someplace. His PAF wind is great. Cost me $100, and they are killer pups. Can't beat it.

Of these 3, I don't know which I like the best. Each is a bit different, and each sounds great:)

No, they have a2 mags that Seymour degausses a bit. I'm sure you could order one, but it would be easier to get some magnets and do it yourself.

Thanks bro,

How does it handle high gain??:)

they sound AWESOME with high gain. All of my amps have a ton of gain (Splawn, Mesa MKIII and BF Dual Rec). Everyone that plays my McNaught remarks on how great it sounds. It stays tight for palm mutes and very clear/ articulate for open chords and single notes.

An Ant. with an A5 is the Ant. 2 series humbucker. A4 is a self done mod.

As for the A2P, I love em! I currently have a Jazz neck, and A2P bridge and love it. I'm going to put the bridge pup in the neck when the the brobucker comes in for a slightly hotter neck and bridge.

Veyr cool! I was worried at 9.13k, it would lose the body of the BBQ or the richness in heavy music. Thanks for the opinion and thoughts.:)

From Tweed

This explains exactly what the Dimarzio VPAF Hot does currently in my Gibson SG...
