BEST lube for brass nut ?

Re: BEST lube for brass nut ?

One thing you can try is to radius and polish the bottom of the slots by taking your previous strings and drawing them back ang forth in the slots.....sorta like a file but doesn't remove material.

Re: BEST lube for brass nut ?

Best stuff I've found is a PTFE "dry" bike chain lube. I hear that a lot of pedal steel guys use it.

PTFE/Teflon is WAY slicker than graphite, and the "base" in these products is technically a soft wax rather than an oil. Once the substrate goes dry--in minutes--you wouldn't even know it's there. It doesn't gunk up like using vaseline does (etc.)--given that it's for road bike chains, if it collected gunk, it'd be useless.

The stuff is priceless for trems and it's rather affordable. I currently have three different strat trems setup to float. I bend up, down, and use the trem ALL the time when I play, and I don't even have to think about stuff getting hung up in the nut anymore or going out of tune--without locking tuners either. I can't say enough. The stuff has been a total game changer, for me.

Brass isn't bad for a nut- but it depends on the hardness of the alloy the brass is made of.

I love the adjustable zero fret on my new Les Paul, though I immediately called Gibson and they sent me a new titanium one to replace the brass one that many complained wore down fast
