Re: Best Mashall Amp

I'd love to have one of the 18 watters. Maybe tht's the same as the 20 watter you have listed?

Re: Best Mashall Amp

I voted for the 2203 just because I own a nice one but I owned a 1959slp back in the day and liked that amp too. Any of the first four are cool though and the old 18 watters are very cool as well. Too bad I've only played a 18 watt clone, I'd like to hear an original Marshall model.

Re: Best Mashall Amp

I like the 800's cause they seem to have an edgey-ness to them that sounds good to me. The JMP's also sound good, as well.

LOL, it wasnt there when i posted.. probably cos i posted about a minute after you did hehe and the poll wasnt up yet

Re: Best Mashall Amp

I did not see a JMP metal front...thats my fav a JMP MK II, 50 watt(more about power below), 4 hole, pre MV.

BTW Lew, just like the original 18 and 20 watters...ther are a completely different circut...IMO the 20 watters sound like poo...I really wnat to know what they brought them back...go with the 18...an 18 watt Mashall sounds very close (and I mean REAL CLOSE) to a Bluesbreaker! If I had to vot I would vote for the DSL50.

BTW...a JTM45 was 45 watts...not 30
a 1959 Plexi head is not 100 watts, it's about 70
and a 1987 50 watt is not 50 watts is really 37

Remember this...YOU CAN NOT HEAR A WATT!!!

Re: Best Mashall Amp

I like the edgy, gritty rock sound of the JCM 800's, and I like the ability to channel switch. I would have voted 2205, but the 2203 is close enough. The 1987x is a great sounding amp, but the non MV models are just too damn loud for the majority of us to use. Also, I like the extra gain you can get from a JCM800 series w/ MV.

Re: Best Mashall Amp

I went with the DSL50 because it is affordable, has a very nice clean channel, and its distortion is very Marshall. I own a DSL50 but have also owned a DSL100 and thought they were very similar, the DSL100 has a little more clean channel headroom. I haven't tried everything on the list.

Re: Best Mashall Amp

IMO, the plexi cannot be beat. I'd choose the 100 watter if you wanted a fuller bottom and more woodier tone, the 50 if you wanted that sweet tube compression...I'd have to go with the 50 myself.

Re: Best Mashall Amp

So a question for Robert,

What clone of the 20 watt Marshall did you try? What did you think? Was it about like a tweed Deluxe or Deluxe Reverb volume wise? I've never tried one.

Thanks!

Re: Best Mashall Amp

DSL 50, because I have one :laugh2:
And IMO you can get almost any marshall sound with it.

Re: Best Mashall Amp

1959 Plexi, hands down.

just because its rocks and its got straight forward pure tube tone.

Re: Best Mashall Amp

no choice for the 900? :) then again, i think i'm the only person in the world who likes the tone. :) :) :)
