Best match to SH-6 Duncan Distortion? HH guitar.

Re: Best match to SH-6 Duncan Distortion? HH guitar.

Treble bleed will be there. I've got Kinman mode in one of my guitars but maybe will try Duncan. Just need to study a little bit more the values.

Ok, it's a point against Jazz if it sounds the worst in a split. Definately will be split or series/parallel switch at least in this guitar. Dimarzio might be a good choice.

What values you guys have in your treble bleeds? Kinman, Duncan, classic?

Re: Best match to SH-6 Duncan Distortion? HH guitar.

On the few that I have done it's been a 500k pot with a 330k resistor. I then choose the cap that provides the best response for the pickup/guitar/rig. It's more or less the DiMarzio recipe as a baseline and then fine tuning of the cap value.

FWIW, I wouldn't use a treble bleed when splitting or wiring in parallel, rather I often go the other way: a low-pass shelf. Then again, I prefer medium output in the bridge and vintage to medium in the neck. Alternate pickup wiring usually means partial coil shunting; and my choice of passive components are done on a case-by-case basis.

I find '50s wiring to be worthwhile when working with lower output pickups.

YMMV, and will depend on your level of OCD. ;)

Screamin' Demon in the neck sound glorious in clean mode. It has good clarity and glassines like Jazz without being 'sterile'. It splits better than Jazz. It's great for lead and offers longer sustain than Jazz, '59, A2Pro, and PG. Not as hot and thick as Distortion neck. And it's Lynch's pickup. What more could you ask for?

Re: Best match to SH-6 Duncan Distortion? HH guitar.

Could be. But I can't recommend a pickup I never use.

Re: Best match to SH-6 Duncan Distortion? HH guitar.

I love the TB-12 in the bridge; hate it in the neck: everything I don't like about the Jazz on steroids, but who cares!

Like you, the OP might really love it. The mahogany could at least give the otherwise sterile mids and exaggerated glassiness a fighting chance.

I definitely wouldn't recommend a treble bleed or '50s wiring with this one.

Of what I know about both, the Perpetual Burn has more potential; and I would recommend it, a pickup I haven't tried, over one I know I don't like.

One of my PRS SE Singlecuts came to me with a Distortion as the bridge pickup.

I put a PGn in the neck position and had a lot of fun with that set.

Eventually I replaced the Distortion with a PGb and for my bluesy style, a set of PG’s is a better fit.

But I liked the PGn and Distortion set too.

My PRS guitars come stock with a 180 pf cap across the volume control. No resistor. Very subtle improvement in the the retaining of treble. I like it...barely audible.

Screamin Deamon is obvious choice ;) But I'm looking for aftermarket pickups for now, and most of them you guys mentioned (Jazz, Pearly, Evolution etc.) shows up from time to time on my FB group. I think I've seen SH-12 somewhere lately too. Anyway, it'll take time to match something as Distortion is my base and a core for the set.

Thanks for the response guys, fills up my pros and cons list ;)
