Re: Best Metal Humbucker For Strat

Well, firstly, there really isn't such a thing as the 'best pickup' for anything really. What may sound heavenly to me may be downright lousy to you. But if you're playing metal and don't want to go down the active pickup (EMG) route, most people in this forum would suggest the JB or Duncan Custom. Both are high output pickups with plenty of oomph. The best part is, if you ditch your current guitar for a better one, then these two pickups are so versatile you can take them with you and plug them into your new guitar and chances are that it will sound good in your new guitar!!

Bare Knuckle Pickups Warpig or Miracle Man.
From Duncan, I would use a Duncan Distortion.

metal usually means scooped mids these days

which wouldn't work well with a jb

****ty excuse for metal usually means scooped mids.

Metal usually means a good amount of mids.

Also, I honestly don't think pickups can be 'scooped.' The mids may be less prominent than the highs and lows, but have you ever heard a 'scooped' pickup?

I think people generically refer to "less-mids-than-bass-and-treble" a scooped. As far as sounding 'scooped', the DiMarzio Steve's Special kind of sounds like that, as does the Dimebucker, though not nearly as much.

Re: Best Metal Humbucker For Strat

I hate to say it, but the DiMarzio Super Distortion (for me) will always remain supreme in metal as the humbucker.
