+1 too that. I like very much Lynch's tone and specifically in "just got lucky". Very crisp PAFish one.

Listen to Dokken's Dysfunctional. Great guitar playing and tone!! And he only grew from there... again IMO...

WTF is it with Zakk Wylde? I think his tone is ****e, maybe its just because i haven't heard his tone used for any even half decent songs.

I don't even get why the guy is so well known.

Wow he plays guitar for ozzy so let's automatically start making out like he is some guitar legend with a godly tone!!!

By the way, Black Label Society suck balls.

Seriously i don't think Wylde is even in the top 50 metal guitarists in the world.

Someone said it and I forgot to say it to: BLS is so poor... no music there... but I like his tone with Ozzy. Though Jake E. Lee had it too!! Very distinctive and well crafted tone!!!

I think all of the guys in the poll suffer from some pretty bad tone.

My vote goes to either Gary Moore back in his hard rock days I think Scott Ian and Dan Spitz had awesome tones on Anthrax 'Sound of white noise' album.

not really 'metal' per se, but i love thrice's tones on 'the illusion of safety' and 'artist'... very heavy without losing all of the vintage vibe! i'd recommend 'deadbolt' as a first song..

I voted Dime but the best metal tone ever heard EVER was Randy Rhoads. He was just a metal god. Tony Iommi's tone comes in a close second after that. Then EVH, but I consider that more classic rock/hard rock then metal.

There really isn't a "best" metal tone, in my opinion. It's like comparing anything else: there's always going to be certain musicians that will sound the best in certain ways, some in other ways. Some are the fastest in terms of solos or notes, some have a more deep sound, etc. With as many options as there are for which guitar, which amp, which stomp box(es), etc....
That being said, I like the semi-metal, semi-rock tone of the "Load" album by Metallica. I think those who don't are just expecting metal and not getting what they want out of the album. Me, I like this album a lot. Now I'll put on some asbestos pants.... :smokin:

Agreed 101%!

They have a really warm, crunchy tone on that album. It's the best hard-rock tone I've heard coming from EMGs. :fingersx:

Dime had always a razor sharp tone wich is not cool for my ears.I love his style but his tone has no life.too overdubbed!!!i vote for petrucci just for "the mirror".but there are much better ones
zack wylde's tone is cool but too "loose".cool harmonics bad definition
Best fast pickn' rythm tone--lamb of god.ashes to the wake or megadeth countdown...
best slow pickn' stomping tone..rich "duke" ward from stuck mojo/fozzy .les paul/parallel axis /2203 and cry baby.thats it.and killer.chek hvy 1 live and you will hear the great mids and cool harmonics.

Alexi Laiho, the children of bodom latest album (are you dead yet) has amazing guitar tone, tight and focused full of life perfectly tuned to the bass drum, i love it.

Also id say Arch Enemy's tone from the Anthems of rebellion album.

Slipknot Live on "Disasterpieces" live dvd has some pretty brutal chunky guitar tone.


My favourite is Arch Enemy..
