"Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

HOOVER vacuum cleaner footswitch :bling: ghetto.... Thats da spirit!!

Rly, methinks its stuff like that which todays music scene is missing most. Just aint proper rocknroll without that creative improvisational spirit!!!

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

It made sense to go that route. Think of how durable a vacuum cleaner switch is. I haven't had one issue with it. It even has an LED mounted in the enclosure. There's just enough voltage coming down the line from the footswitch jack to power it.

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

Mate, that's pure praise, not sarcasm!

Vacuum cleaner footswitch = 10x cooler than "paid Jim Marshall (rip) $89 for a footswitch replacement in the 90s" (especially if that's followed by "...and replaced it three times since")

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

Tele $200-250 in my experience
Amp $300 your words not mine

Hardshell, cables, mb a tuner stand etc - common case candy/deal sweeteners. Also, tuners and cables are 20 bucks tops, or total if you catch a sale. And a $150 hardshell for an instantly replaceable and easily serviced $200 mexican fender? Izzat a joke?

I said $550 bottom end for guitar+amp, and $700 high end. Nowhere did I ever say $500 bottom end to $550 top end for those things. So they were NOT my words.

I figured since guitar+amp came in under budget, use the rest on important, quality accessories. A good case is a lifetime investment, and $100 to $150 is not too much to pay IMO.

You asked for answers, and I gave you mine. Everyone in this thread will have a different answer, which is the whole point of the thread. You arguing with anyone's answer in this thread is ridiculous. It's just an opinion; nobody is right or wrong in their answer, and nobody is twisting anyone's arm here.

- Squier Classic Vibe Tele: $370 - $400

OR

- Gibson SGJ: $400

- Jet City JCA2112RC 20W Tube Combo: $400

- ~$200 to spend on cables, strings, a used gig bag, a pedal etc.

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

1981 Hamer Special ran me 300 dollars at a pawn shop. $250 for an AB165 Bassman Head, 200 for a used, V30 loaded 1936 Marshall cab, and I just picked up a Tubeworks Realtube for $20 locally. I could splurge and get a new compressor pedal, but I'm going to go the BYOC route. Add about a hundred for that, and I'm still under budget. Oh yeah, and my Hamer came with a SKB case when I got it. ;)

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

I HAVE changed out the pickups many times on that Hamer, but the original PAF/Super D that came in it were more than serviceable.

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

UPDATE: nevermind the Eclipse, I cheated on her w/ a modded-to-hëll active/passive HS layoutCharvel Avenger (Randy Rhoads, a shape i never even LIKED!) For $199, w/OHSC. On layaway till CA police hold expires this sunday, took me 3 minutes from sighting her to pull out my wallet and buy...

Mods:
*KAHLER
*EMG 81 (bridge)
*Seymour Duncan rails of some kind, neck - somehow purrfectly balanced w/EMG (afterburned? Idk. SINGLE SHARED VOLUME POT NO LESS!)

Fierce, awesome TONE, even through 6505 112 @ shop levels (which, with other comparison guitars including Prestiges and Gibson Stds - on that very GC Lake Forest 6505 112 combo, the same exact unit - couldnt hold a candle to my retubed Bugera 6262/ Carvin Celestion 12-65 4x12 halfstack)... It rly rly ANNIHILATED the ESP Eclipse/halfstack pairing through that 112 60w wannabe.

Anyways, the ESP will be sold off, or, barring that, returned. And my cheap great gear list will once again have NO >$200 guitars. Hehe!

I don't have any pic's of my sub 1K rig, but any of my guitars + my lil' JTM45 (aka, Marshall Class 5 combo - also USED) can fit into this category.

* Gibson SG faded (bought used) w. Duncan A2P's ---> Marshall Class 5

* Tele MIM w. BK Flatt 50's / Graphtech Saddles ---> Marshall Class 5

* Ibby Artcore w. TV Jones TV-HT's ---> Marshall Class 5

I hope you mean second hand?

I'm sure once in a while you can find new MIM Fenders for used prices. Just takes patience and a bit of looking around.

I know I've seen stupid low deals, and I remember Itsabass getting a new Gibson SG Faded for ~$300 when they were $800 - out the door, no problems.

He can correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

Used Epi LP Std, Dot, or SG, with a couple of used Duncan's. That's $300-$400, and leaves plenty of room for a decent used amp.

Used Epi Casino
Used EHX Big Muff
Used Fender Excelsior
Two brand new cables.

THIS I CAN GIG !!!

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

Doesn't include guitars or pedals, but the head and cab added up to $1,000. They were purchased a few years apart. This was my gigging rig until a few years ago.

I played USA Hamers through this rig at many gigs. Those guitars can be found for under $1000, and have tone and workmanship that rivals high end boutique guitars.

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

Here's mine but it's in £'s and not $s

Used USA Fender Strat - £450
Used Marshall JCM800 2210 - £220
New and Discountd Marshall 1936 2x12 cab - £200
Total = £870 so plenty of money left for cables etc

If you can go a smidge over the £1k budget:
Used Marshall JCM800 2210 - £220
New and Discountd Marshall 1936 2x12 cab - £200
Used USA PRS Custom 22 - £650
Total = £1070

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

I'd probably choose a used Bogner Alchemist 212 combo, and a G&L Tribute of some sort. It would cover a lot of ground.

Re: "Best mileage out of a grand" : show off your ~$1k used rigs

Another idea:
A USA Hamer Monaco Elite Mahogany: $650 used and tone and playability that rival boutique guitars,
Marshall JTM-60: $350 used, or
Peavey Wiggy and cab: $315 used for both

Whoaaaa... Youre a boss for getting deals like that in pricey britain of all places!

That JR is overpriced, especially for BlackFri/CyberMonday season... and the cheapest Gibsons of 2009 are kinda 50/50 at best, if not outright 100% dodgy.
