Really? I had a crunch se Marshall in that was modded by Martin Golub when he worked for Bradshaw, and couldn't get along with it. Just goes to show.

They do use two amps together though so it could be that blend that is the magic ingredient

I'm partial to OD2 orange in my JVM 410H that I nodded myself. I did the plexi cap, variable slope resistor, variable negative feedback, one wire, and recto mods to it.

I'd love to hear/play that. Especially considering how much I love the stock OD orange mode on my 210H.

One of the Lee Jackson modded 800's that Daymon Johnson had when he was playing with Brother Cain. That particular amp was just a freeking tone MACHINE!! Had a shot at buying it from him and now wish I would have bought that amp!!

Is it me or do Marshall's always have to be modded to sound good?

I think they have to be turned up loud to sound good. Of my two "Marshally" amps, the Splawn sounds good down to a pretty quiet level. The JCM800 2203 needs to be up pretty loud.

Best modded Marshall I'd say might be Wolf Hoffmans JCM800 in eighties. I remember reading somewhere it had two power amp sections housed in it for 200 watts... Don't know what else might have been done to it...

Do you mean a "Marshall" modded Marshall? Or a Marshall sounding modded amp....

I can think of a few - but they are not necessarily Marshall or amps....

Well then...

One was a Soldano SLO 100 (Snakeskin covered) that I REALLY wish I bought.
Another is the Marshall JCM900 SL-X

And...seriously here - A preset I made on a Boss ME-5 multi-fx. Had a ton of people ask me about that sound. Dirt, EQ, and a very slight touch of reverb. It was awesome.
