best, most versatile condenser mic for under $500?

My initial thought is the AKG c214, just because I have used its big brother c414 alot and i know it smokes almost everything. I will mainly use this for vocals. Any thoughts on the 214? Any other ideas?

The AKG C-3000 is a nice one, and it also makes a heck of a fine stage condenser, which rejects feedback up to very much louder levels than most others I've tried.
