Best Neck Pickup to Pair With 59/Custom

Re: Best Neck Pickup to Pair With 59/Custom

the Sentient and 59/C would make darn near the perfect match

Duncan painted themselves into a corner with the aesthetics they used for the Pegasus, Sentient, Nazgul, and Black Winter pickups (even worse).

Having the Sentient filtered as a high output pickup on the website was especially bone-headed.

Re: Best Neck Pickup to Pair With 59/Custom

i have been trying to find info about the 59/jazz neck pickup to go with the 59/custom bridge - are both the 59 and the jazz using the neck pickups ? they use the same size wire, same magnet and nearly identical resistance - i know the 59/custom bridge owes some of its sound to the coils having different size wire and a different resistance, so does the 59/jazz neck use a neck pickup and a bridge pickup ? what gives ?

Wat gives? It's not a production pickup, you can make it however you want. They're different winds so you'll get hybrid tone with 2 necks, but a neck and a bridge would be good also.

Re: Best Neck Pickup to Pair With 59/Custom

Other factors like the wind pattern and tension affect the tone and resulting mis match of the hybrid coils. It's not only the length and gauge of wire.

A different type of wire and very easily a different wind pattern.

A Jazz Neck doesn't sound like a 59 Neck. What gives? ;)

Re: Best Neck Pickup to Pair With 59/Custom

does anyone know what type of wire is used in the jazz and 59 ? plain enamel is used in the Seths, Antiquities and PGs, but don't know what the other pups use - which ones use formver or poly ? thought there used to be a chart of all the pickups and size and type of wire used - does anyone have a link or know where to find this info ?

Re: Best Neck Pickup to Pair With 59/Custom

thanks for the info - much appreciated -

still looking for a chart with the pickup magnet type, size and type of wire, etc - no luck yet -

anyone know what type of wire is used in the APH ?

Re: Best Neck Pickup to Pair With 59/Custom

APH and Jazz are exactly the same. The former uses an A2 and the latter an A5.

You won't get one......at least from the big guys.
Boutique winders will often give you insulation type as they are wanting to prove its been made from the same-ish spec wire as the pickups they're trying to clone.

But more often than not buyers only want K as a spec. So now that all you'll get. In fact James from ReWind was forced into it.....here it is in his words:

You and some others long-time members here will know that I used to publish ALL the specs on my website except DCR: Turn counts, wire information, inductance, steel alloys, exact offset, magnet charge, etc. I've even published the TPL of some of my own designs and at least one example of the almighty PAF. You know why I don't publish any of that anymore, but I do publish rough DCR, now? It's because that is what the musicians wanted. After taking the same phone call and replying to the same email over and over and over for a few months, I reluctantly took down the information that was causing more confusion than help among musicians and posted the rough DCR figures, which was basically demanded of me.
