Best neck Pickups

Re: Best neck Pickups

can't remember if I've already asked or not... have you compared the Mean 90 to the Dream 90?

No, I've never played a Dream 90. But I've heard lots of bad things about it...especially compared with the Mean 90. Sorry I couldn't be of help.

Re: Best neck Pickups

When it comes to cleans, I prefer single coils at the neck. The Dimarzio and Duncan versions of the YJM are also perfect for distorted leads. Very buttery, yet with perfect high end.

Honorable mention to Duncan Cool Rails.

I love neck HBs for distorted leads. Hard to rank them, but here is overall:

1. Dimarzio Air Norton
2. Dimarzio Blaze Neck (7-string)
3. Duncan '59 Neck
4. Gibson 1959 Les Paul Reissue (standard on many Gibsons in the early '90s)
5. EMG 60

Re: Best neck Pickups

Actually, I like a good single coil in the neck (or a stack, which I prefer), but I have more options with a humbucker. I tend to hear more varied style and tone across different guitarists with humbuckers, as many single coil-neck players go for that SRV/Hendrix thing.
I agree. I was locked into the SRV/Hendrix thing with the strat pickups until I put a switch in to run them series. Sounds different and made me want to play rock ideas.

Re: Best neck Pickups

I think one of the best neck pickups I have is an SH-6N with an RCA4 magnet in it. I have also replaced the screw with hex heads. The pickup is mounted in a Triple Shot and I usually run it in parallel. Though it does split very well too.
