Best neck pup match for Tone Zone bridge?

Hi guys,

I'm looking to replace the neck pickup in my Les Paul.

The guitar currently has a Dimarzio Tone Zone installed in the bridge position which is a fairly high output, warm sounding pickup.

I'm looking for a pickup that will compliment the Tone Zone, although there is a chance I may swap the Tone Zone out at some point for something a little brighter.

I've been considering the AP2, Jazz, 59 and Pearly Gates. My style ranges from classic rock, to alternative rock/punk to hard rock.

Thanks guys, any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Mind if I ask how it sounds? I have an Agile PRS copy, mahogany, and wondered how the tone zone sounds in mahogany. I'm playing through a 5150 and was looking for a pickup to tame the brightness. To answer your pickup question, an air zone in the neck seems to work wonders with this.

Thanks for the reply.

The Tone Zone is quite warm sounding however I wouldn't say it's muddy sounding in mahogany (at least in my guitar). Low and mid range are very pronounced. I think it sounds great with distortion, and IMO even sounds pretty good when played clean.

It sounds like it may be right up your alley if you are looking for a high output pickup with some warmth. I hope this helps. Unfortunately i don't have any sound clips.

Thanks Reckless. I've heard that the Air Norton is a good match as well as the PAF Pro.

The problem is that I've had a hell of a time finding a dealer that will ship Dimarzio to Canada. Local dealers never have the ones in stock that I'd like to try (and usually say they don't know how long it could take to get them).

SD's on the other hand are very easy for me to get. That's sort of why I was leaning towards an SD pickup for the neck (I happened to buy my Tone Zone when I was in Maryland a little while back).

Any suggestions for a Duncan pickup that would be a good match?

Thanks,
Adam

I have an SD '59 in my LP and love it. It's basically a PAF type pu very fat and warm, amazing clean tones and distorted with the tone turn all the way down it's a dead match for Santana.
