Best pedal for me?

I'm pedal searching, lol. This is almost as hard as guitar shopping.

I need just a little help, i'll be playing mostly Sum 41, Blink-182, and Green Day stuff. I relate it most to them cos, well, i'll be playing MOSTLY distorted power chords.

I was mostly leaning toward a Boss DS-1, but i dunno. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Re: Best pedal for me?

With that amp it is gonna be hard to get really close but possibly a DS-1. If its early Green Day then many marshall flavoured pedals will work but SUM 41 or Blink are a little heavier. Maybe try the Digitech Distortion (the newish one in the Hardwire Series). I wouldn't get something too expensive because it is likely not to sound much better with that amp or any cheaper solid state.

Re: Best pedal for me?

Well, you probably don't want to hear this, but a pedal isn't going to give you any sound you want with a 15 watt solid state amp. With a possible exception to a decent modeler. If you have no means of getting a better amp any time soon, you should just hold off and deal with the distortion form your amp.

You should just save your money and wait on a decent amp to come along. The ds-1 and the distortion+ are great pedals and they sound great in front of the right amp, but they aren't really going to do much for a small 15watt ss amp. But if you do get one and eventually get a tube amp, you'll be set.

I think the only thing to really get the sound you're after is some kind of processor. I can't see you paying any more than $100 bucks for one, considering that would be more than you're amp is worth. The digitech rp series are cool. You can get a new one for $50 or a used older model for even less.

Re: Best pedal for me?

I would see about upgrading to a larger amp if possible. If not, then go with a effects processor instead of the DS-1. I have the Zoom John 5 Signature series pedal and they're only $50.00. They sound way much better than Digitech's RP-series. You can get one of these at www.americanmusical.com .

Re: Best pedal for me?

new amp is priority

those Fender 15G's have good dirt for what they are. Unless you specifically need a way to switch from clean to dirty without pushin the button then a pedal isn't gonna give you a BETTER sound so much as a DIFFERENT one.

How long's it gonna take to save the $50 for a DS-1? How much longer will it take to get a couple hundred? A good tube amp will last longer and be a way bigger step up.

I mean i was about to get in this thread and just type "Box of Rock" a bunch of times but yeah. Don't plug a $200 pedal into an $80 amp. Get your amp right ASAP because that's like 80% of your tone.

My friend put it best..."The amp is a lot louder than the guitar."

Re: Best pedal for me?

you would be wasting your money on a pedal when you use a 15g as your amp. The dirty sound on a 15g is fine on its own. If you want to sound better, save up and buy a better amp. the 15g is fine for practice in the meanwhile.
Basically what empty pockets said.....
