Best Pedal Tuner

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I've had a Korg Pitchblack for years now and its great, accurate, nice display, several display modes. I also have a TC Electronic Polytune (one of the new mini ones) that I got as part of a 'buy two pedals get a third free' thing.

I'm gonna be honest with you, a tuner is a tuner, both are hugely high quality, both are true bypass. Go with whatever one you like the look of more.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I guess best pedal tuner would depend on the accuracy of tuning. The most accurate ones ar strobe tuners but they are best suited for intonation & stuff. Too much accuracy live & achieving it during a gig are difficult & time consuming deeds. Having said that, the sonic research turbo tuner st100 is what i have but no longer use live, its quick, accurate, true bypass, $130 new i think & has got bunch of features that i dont have much use for and my guitars dont always stay perfectly in tune after a song anyway.

I use korg pitchblack live now. Some others to look at would be, hardwire, boss, tc & planet waves.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I've had the original Strobostomp, the original Pitch Black, the Polytune, and that Fender. I think all of them have been good pedal tuners. I liked that the Polytune could be updated through the USB port.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

Been using the same boss TU2 for 12 years and still going. Not too fancy but it has served me well. If I needed another tuner I would look into the TC polytune though as you can apparently strum and check each string at once. No idea on build quality and so on though

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I just recently bought a new tuner. It hasn't arrived yet so I don't have a review of it for you, but I'm (reasonably) excited about it.

I've used the same Korg DT10 for years, but while building out my new pedalboard, I've finally become frustrated with its size. I was intrigued by the Polytune, and was having a hard time deciding between that and sticking with Korg and going with a Pitchblack.

Enter the Korg Pitchblack Poly:

Should be here tomorrow.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

Do any of you have a favorite pedal tuner that has a display bright enough to be seen in outdoor sun?

Bill

That is a great question.

I will say that the old Korg DT-10 has a pretty bright display. The LEDs are slightly hooded so it is possible to make them out outdoors... but some squinting is involved.

Saw that on MF yesterday for hellacheap... like $35.

My pitchblack has never let me down. Bright enough to be seen outside during the day and big enough i don't have to be right on top of it to see it.

Crap. I ordered mine from Amazon a week ago and paid closer to $50. Still a good price on a nice tuner though.

It came today and seems very solid and works well. I'm still getting used to the poly tuning but it converts to a strobe mode if I pluck a single string, so it's pretty versatile.

It also has an output to run a daisy chain like the Boss TU-2 and can drive 200 mAh. I don't need that right now but it was an unexpected bonus.

Re: Best Pedal Tuner

I love my Polytune. Have been using it since shortly after it came out. Has been bright enough outdoors but I still wrap a little tape hood around the front to shade the display a little more just for that extra insurance. The poly tuning is great. A lot easier to check tuning in between songs really quickly. I had a Planet Waves pedal tuner before it and it worked well too except the latch to hold the footswitch down broke so it flapped around. Haven't gotten around to try and fix it.

See the video in post 5......the Go Go Pedal Tuner. I'm half blind without glasses, so the big bright display sold me. No more squinting to see the note.
