Best pedalboard for every situation !

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

a long answer !!

first answer, IMO you are wrong

line 6 M9 is not dated : it’s the same thing like the M13 and the others
a lot of people only use these m effects just for delay and reverb

i saw Steve Hackett or others famous guitarists with Line 6 products but i really don’t like that
i like the pod farm for my computer
that’s all

and the zoom ms 50g is not dated too :)) look at the years:)))

ms 70 cdr is just based on chorus and it is the same s…. as the ms 50 or other = open your ears:))

ms 50-70 is the same stuff : it was very interesting in the paper but i reality it is just good to play with a computer in usb
not on stage
or if you like these kinds of sounds ok
i prefer analog pedals: the sound is very different
beautiful/respect of the sound of my guitar, true bypass and really good sound

i bought a mini fuzz face: the sound is really far from a M9 lolllllll x 100000

not beautiful
my choice is done !! easy choice after having experienced a lot

the only thing that i like a little bit was the zoom g9 2 tt because the modulations were good (with headphone too)
very high gain in disto but i want to sell it too because my pedals had a better sound and it’s normal
there is no magic: it’s an illusion
Zoom made me dreaming just some minutes lol

when your are in rehearsals, you have some Marshall jcm/dsl with a lot of tubes: why will your bring some numeric stuff here?
i brought some vox tonelab and it was catastrophic but i was too young to know
a lot of feedback too
different volumes and other problems

the only problem with the delay is that it should be in the fx loop of the amp
but in 2-3 hours, i prefer to play and bring just the pedals that i need

i played like that some years ago and at this time i did not know but now i know what sound is good, transparent and beautiful to my ears
and what sound is too much numeric and awful

professionnels don’t use multi-effects except for demonstrations with pa system with a public to show all the positive versatility of the product

i don’t talk about the tc electronic nova system or g system for Steve Vai for example or Steve Stevens
it must be good
i am sure
transparent

i don’t talk about the Roland gr50 or55 which is a very good thing but with some latence sometimes
i have it too and it is not perfect because of that but i like it very much because it’s almost real
M9 or ZOom : not real at all !

i don’t understand all the success ?of the line 6 m9
fuzz are not like my fuzz face
chorus are not as good as my Marshall regenerator which is numeric but sounds like analog
amazing
i will just keep the delay and some reverb but i noticed my sound became bad with that
so, it’s under my bed:)

you had all the sounds but with a very bad numeric sounds
so
when a mult-effect will sound like an analog pedals….not for tomorrow!!
my choice was easy!

but i will be happy to try the H9, modfactor, empress or other Strymon products just to see the evolution and to tell me
ok:)
progress is in action ! let’s try it !

i don’t think that i will be happy with a boss gt or other gt
my ears don’t like that
my ears liked that when i thought multi effects were the best thing for all the sounds of the universe!!
200 presets!!
now, if i buy one m effect, i must try it a long time in shops
it’s the best thing to do
so i prefer some pedals, it’s fun and if i am not happy i can sell these products easily
30 days to try :)

in fact, my question was about pedalboard with pedals and not multi effects like that or juste some advice /reviews for
g system
empress, eventide or others

i am used to play with pedals that i choose for the sound that i like with my amp too
i can’t go back, i just try to find products better than i have when they are broken too
or different but not with too much numeric sound

and the gt 100 is not true bypass so i am not interesting about this but i can test it in a shop just to listen to some sounds

i had multi effects with songs and presets that i made before the show but in fact, it was just good at home

i won’t use that live with a band because i like good sounds
sorry :) i don’t like that sound

except if had to play for a party
but on stage or in the studio where i play with some bands, there were beautiful 100w amps

it’s not to put some numeric like that

it’s fun at home : that’s all.

thanks for you answer
my delay has chorus so it can be deleted just in a second or you can put the pedals in the loop or with some Radial products too
to put a the pedals together= chorus+delay for example
it’s possible but you need more jacks

the M9 line 6 can do all these things but i really did not like the sound

i understand what you means delay-chorus-drive ok in a song: clean sound/drive without the chorus

about the boost: i prefer my pedal, it’s warm boost
i can’t find a better boost with BOSS
i am sure

the only thing i like with multi-effect is the presets for each song
some van halen’s tone yeah
it’s hard to find
i have not played with the Wampler pedal : a red one

about the multi effects: it’s fun to play just some hours but when you realize the sounds are very bad compared with what you had with pedals
or with an amp
the choice is easy for me
that why my multi effects are under my bed of for sale lol
but if i had to play for a wedding or a fiesta, a party
why not?
juste one thing for all the sounds : delay, reverb, presets ok

the tc electronic g system will have a good sound (i suppose)
and less presets than the Boss
it’s sure or you had to make your presets

and i have not talked about guitar rig-with a MAC or others
it can be great, i am sure but i don’t need that even if it is a great evolution but another topic

these products are great if you don’t have an amp
why would you bring a very bad numeric sound to a full tubes amp?

it’s not logic and it’s not a question of logic it’s just a question of the sound
beautiful sound or not but i will try it if i can

with a new band, i just will take my guitar+chorus/phaser/flanger/vibe
+delay
+metal/fuzz
+tuner

+ehx c3 for organ /synth sounds or ehx epitome because you have :chorus-flanger-a little bit of synth/organ+shimmer+reverb

eventide arpegiator if you have money for harpegiator (i don't have this product but i would like to have it)

yes, a lot of pedals with a ts9 too lol

so, you must choose
it depends on the bands, the songs, the effects ....you want to try or just what you need

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

I use an M9 with a Mesa Blue Angel, and it sounds great. I use it for drives- I use the Tube Driver model- since the Mesa doesn't have a drive channel. I use it for wah, delay, phaser and looper too. Works great at any volume.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

What's every situation for you? you can be a rock guitarist like The Edge with a lot of effects or you can be like Angus Young. There are metal players who go almost straight to the amp and others who have a huge pedalboard.

Basically, it's just having enough channels on your amp and/or a good gain pedal. Delays/modulation/etc is just a matter of taste. Plus - there are bandmates who help determine the band's style.

I got by with an overdrive and a wah (which I've never abused) for a few years now. Used to have a simple delay and a boutique flanger and everything sounded better to me when they were off. Started adding and subtracting pedals lately and the only non-overdrive pedal I'm okay with so far is a tremolo pedal. So a do it all pedalboard only needs an overdrive on it, as far am I concerned.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

My pedalboard handles whatever sort of music I care to play. ;)

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

I grow tired of pedals so i jsut run the lead from my amp directly into my guitar.

The only meaningful info in your long answer is that quote.

You asked people what their pedalboards for situations were, people have given you their answer. You dont have to like what we use. Unless you wanted to get stuff people are using themselves. I'm not trying to tell you to go buy what i use, because what i use is selected by me to work for my needs. You can sit and argue about digital & analog pedals or racks or floor units, its boring and has been done before many times over by alot of people over the years.

I'll leave you with just one of the many wrong/uninformed opinions/conclusions in your long answer. The MS70CDR & MS50G do not share all the same type of delays or choruses, you can download the pdf files for each &compare, better yet Brett Kingman has a video up of the cdr that might be worth looking at. The L6 M series is dated by the way, check its initial public release date, it doesn't mean it sounded bad though people are still using them & I never said the newer zoom stomp multis were dated though, you just didnt read my previous post well.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

Gear - Pedalboard A-V2.1 (2,835$) [Primary].jpg

Why the MM at the end??

I think he's got the Phase 90 at the very end.

Don't let the order of the pedals fool you about the wiring chain... the pedals at the front, are the ones that I stomp on and off the most, and the pedals in the back are either on all the time or rarely used.

The chain is: Guitar to Buffer to Wah to Phaser to Comp to GT-OD to Soul Food to PlexiTone to Crunch Box to Riot to Metal Muff to Chorus to Buffer to Amp...
Then in the FX Loop: EQ to ISP Decimator to Delay to Reverb to Looper.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

Who is the manufacturer of the board itself? I could use something like that...

It was manufactured by way of a hardware store for some plywood and black paint, using a drill where needed...

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

Full tone OCD->Crybaby Slash Classic Wah->MXR Carbon Copy->Black Cat Tremolo->Visual Sound H2o Chourus&delay->TC Electronics PolyTune->Boss Ns2 Noise Suppressor... I think, I'm not 100% on the order since it used to have different pedals and over the years I've swapped out old ones for new and never bothered with the order

Any concerns regarding the wood expanding in hot / humid weather, or contracting in cold weather, if it's plywood and holds that many effects, it's got to be just a little heavy?

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

Most of the time I just have an MXR Dynacomp through the front end along with an old Crybaby. Through the loop, It's usually an old Ibanez PT-5 multi effects. that is all about to change as I am going back to the MIDI days of yore, and going back to the old ADA MP-1, with an Alesis Midiverb, Dynacomp and crybaby through the front end of the MP-1.

I just like being able to program patches save them, and then radically change my sound by hitting one button, not tap dancing for one tone, and then another , and another. One button is nice in a live situation to drastically change tones. Maybe i'll even get a Joe Dirt wig and bring back the worst of the '80s all at once!

Whose with me!!!??? Just kidding. No wonder I can't give my album away.

It's really not a concern, the board measures 34x13-inches and weighs about 25lbs (Pedals included). It's made from a single 3/4-inch plywood board that rests on 3/4-inch by 3/4-inch maple frame under the entire bottom contour of the board (to have plenty of room to pass wires underneath) and has 4 to 5 coats of black paint all over it. I weigh about 250lbs and I jumped on it before placing my pedals on and it survived to tell the tale... I live in Atlantic Canada where our winters are very cold & Dry and our summers are somewhat hot & very humid. Unless I leave it outside in the rain for a week, the board will last me a lifetime (although, I think I would be more worried about the pedals if I left it outside for a week.)

Understood, where I live we have similar weather, I may "borrow" your idea and see what I come up with....Power supplies installed underneath the board itself I assume...

Don't worry, It's not my idea. People have been making pedalboards like mine (and better) for years. I just build them to my current requirements (I've built quite a few because I'm always changing my mind...)

As for power: I use two Godlyke Power-All Systems, that can power up to 11 pedals each, and only use one power outlet each. Some people have had added noise issues with this system (and with the Visual Sound 1Spot system too), but the only time I have unwanted noise is when my Crunch Box, Riot, or Metal Muff distortions are on. And my ISP Decimator deals with them very effectively.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

hi
do you like the nova system? it will always be for rehearsals
if i buy it

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

I'm a fan of the idea of several smaller boards for different situations.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

yes, i know there is no best pedalboard but just what we need
but the tc electronic g system and nova system seem to be good

if someone have played with it, you can talk here:)

i tried many multi effects: from Korg to line 6 M9 to zoom ms50 to zoom g9 2TT
now, i prefer my pedals but having all modulations-delay-reverb-arpegiator-shimmer in one pedal can be interesting too

Eventide H9 can have that
the H9 max model but we can't mix effects if i understand well

99 presets:) only

eventide-h9-max.jpg

That is the core of my everything board. H9 - Vol/Wha - Carbon Copy - CS9 - Flavor of the day for dirt/boost.

I havent had a situation yet where that setup hasn't worked.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

You'd have a hard time finding something my current board wouldn't work for:

Pedalboard (1 of 1).jpg

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

I'm (heavily) paraphrasing John Bohlinger from Premier Guitar, but every good gear setup should do four things: clean, dirty, wibbly, and ambience.

Your amp should produce the clean, and if there are pedals involved we're talking boosters or a compressor.

Dirty is obvious. Whatever it takes to sing in your genre. Its hard to go wrong with something like a RAT which can do almost everything pretty well.

Wibbly is your modulation. If I had to pick two I'd say a tremolo and a phaser can do almost everything. A phaser can kind of cop a univibe, and a trem can fit in almost any genre.

Ambience is your delays and reverbs. A nice analog delay, or a warm/lo-fi digital delay, something without too too much modulation could be added to any genre of music.

That's trying to keep to my personal goals of pedalboard minimalism though. If I made a do everything board I'd try to make it with 5 pedals or so max, minus the tuner.
