what's up guys I am new here in the forum and would like to know which of these pedals are better for the hot rodded jumping channel mod plexi or jcm 800 tones like a george lynch , warren de martini , randy rhoads , jake e lee and other 80s hair metal guitar heroes I know most of these guys used a marshall super lead 100 (plexi) with mods and some pedals like ibanez ts9, mxr distortion plus like booster . So I was looking to buy some of these pedals.

suhr riot
mad professor mighty red distortion
Catalinbread - DIRTY LITTLE SECRET
MI AUDIO SUPER CRUNCH BOX

Which one of these pedals has the best marshall tone of the 80's hair metal?
thanks guys

What do you have for an amp currently? And guitar?

Some more info will help on finding you the right thing.

Re: Best pedals for marshall 80s tone?

hi again guys my guitar is strat basswood body with 1 old seymour duncan distortion in the bridge and my amps is Transistor 15 watts but , of those pedals in my list which one is the most appropriate for this type of tone?

ps sorry guys for my bad inglish

Re: Best pedals for marshall 80s tone?

They are all good pedals, the DLS may not have enough gain for the sounds you are going for though, the problem is going to be the little amp which I'm guessing has an 8 or 10 in speaker. Investing in a $150 - $200 pedal for that amp is probably still going to leave you wanting.

True tone Jeckyl and Hyde is a good one. The distortion side is based on the Marshall Full Shred pedal and gets a pretty good JCM800 style sound.

Re: Best pedals for marshall 80s tone?

Instead of a pedal, get a used modeling amp like a Vox Valvetronix, Fender Mustang, or Line 6.

If you stick with the idea of an inexpensive pedal for your current amp, get a Boss Power Stack or Marshall Gov'nor II.

If you go for a Marsall Guv'nor II, many feel it sounds like blanket is covering the amp. There are several mods out tiger that improve it though. The simplest being to remove capacitor C22 from the circuit or replace it with a smaller value to bring out the high end.

Re: Best pedals for marshall 80s tone?

I'm with everyone else on this. And we get this question/situation often.

You can get a pedal - but a better amp will be money much better spent. Any Roland modeling amp these days can be found used for the price of some of those pedals. The 5150 model will nail what you want. Plus the amp comes with chorus/delay etc....

Honestly, my Peavey Studio Pro was killer. Can find those used for ~ 100 dollars.

Those pedals are all great, but if you had ever piece of gear in Lynch's rig and put it into that setup it would be crap. A Squire into Lynch's Diablo will slay.

That said - my choices:

Suhr riot is excellent for all kinds of tones. I actually have a US Dream and a Mooer Solo.
The Dirty Little Secret is awesome. I like the MkII
Try a Boss Powerstack

But the money would be better spent on an upgraded amp, IMO...

Re: Best pedals for marshall 80s tone?

Thank you guys, I really need the best amp and I'm going to buy one but now I can only buy a pedal I really liked the kasha rockmod but it's very difficult to find here in my country

Re: Best pedals for marshall 80s tone?

I agree with everyone that said a new amp should be a priority. Something like a Marshall dsl 40c would probably be great, and you wouldn't need any pedals. As far as pedals go I have one of the older mi audio crunchboxes and it's a great pedal, the super should be even better. I don't think you could really go wrong with one of those, but again it's hard to say how it will sound through your amp until you try it.

Re: Best pedals for marshall 80s tone?

The Kasha stuff is only available direct. But I agree with what others have said, your money would be much better spent on another amp. Nothing is going to give you the sound you are looking for through your amp. It doesn't even have to be a tube amp, check out Randall SS amps if they are available, Lynch used those back in the early Dokken days, and the RG80 combo is basically are reissue of that amp. There are good small modeling amps out there too, again, they won't be much more than the pedals you have listed.

Of course, I don't know what country you are in, but if you can find some of those pedals, I can't imagine you will have trouble finding some of the small amps that have been mentioned.

Re: Best pedals for marshall 80s tone?

What ever they used back then....a Marshall ;)
Truth.
That, and maybe an sd-1, ds-1, tube screamer or a rat. All offer blistering tones thru the right amp.

You can get some fun sounds out of the modern "marshall in a box" pedals, but once you try the real thing, there is really no substitute.

Re: Best pedals for marshall 80s tone?

RambleFX Marvel Drive is the closest to my JCM that I've ever heard in a pedal.

Re: Best pedals for marshall 80s tone?

Hi folks Will bogner la grange deliver the tone of the 80's?

Probably not through a practice amp.

I spent years and way too much money swapping pickups, pedals, multi-effect modelers, guitars... all while using a junky little practice amp. Once I got a real amp, I realized how much time I'd wasted, and how the amp made ten-thousand percent more difference than all those other things combined.
