Best pick-up for a Dime-O-flame

I am searching for a bridge pickup for my Dime-O-Flame. At the moment I have a custom five in it and it is way to deep for the mahogany that the guitar has. Playing through a peavey 5150 and Laney Iron heart. Anyone have any suggestions ?

How about a Dimebucker?

I didn't like it. In my own opinion it had to much sizzle to it. I cant believe the Custom 5 made it that dark.

Re: Best pick-up for a Dime-O-flame

Try putting a regular ceramic magnet into the Custom 5 which makes it into a regular Custom.

Yeah, before switching pickups, switch magnets. I bet the Custom (with ceramic magnet) would be a much better choice.

What ceramic do I need to order ? All I have is super ceramic and its way to much for it. Makes it real buzzy.

Re: Best pick-up for a Dime-O-flame

Just get one that is the standard thickness, the same as your A5 that's in there now. Or you could even try an A8 instead of the ceramic. The Custom 8 has gotten very good reviews around here. Lot's of top and bottom, but no buzzyness.

But you dont think the a8 would be too muddy. I have a Alternative 8 but its a sh and that thing was okay in my Les Paul. I like the SH-5 in it better though.....I figured the dime was a lot more mahogany and would be deeper

Never heard an Alt8 being described as muddy.

try a bill Lawrence I have one in the neck position on mine its just an L500 but the XL's are hotter its nice n bright n warm I loved the dimebucker but donated it to my sons guitar

Re: Best pick-up for a Dime-O-flame

well, if you say the dimebucker had way much sizzle if you still have it you could try running it with a 250k pot or just dial the tone halfway back, i normally do that unless i'm playing dimebag or buzzsaw thrash ala Sodom M-16

on that one i was going for a dime inspired tone with a searing top and some warmth and a big tight Oomphh on the very bottom

Re: Best pick-up for a Dime-O-flame

I have never heard the A8 described as muddy either. I'd still pick between the Custom and the A8.

Re: Best pick-up for a Dime-O-flame

Its all finished and the A8 magnet in the custom 5 sounds awesome love it thanks guys

If the Dimebucker had too much sizzle then perhaps a Bill Lawrence L500? (not XL)
