It's a 1999 model, and the pickups are passive and has the usual bass preamp package, e.g., volume knob (with push/pull for active/passive), blend pot, and three active EQ knobs (bass-mid-treble). The volume and blend are normal nobs while the EQ knobs are smaller.
This is a very cool bass overall, but whether it's the wood or the electronics, it's a little on the dark side and I want to get a little more presence/brightness or whatever it takes to get a better funk slap/snap tone out of it. It's close, but doesn't have enough of that classic Fender "ping", especially on the lower strings.
As I said, the pickups are passive and they are Jazz-style. I'm interested in suggestions for both pickup replacements and active preamp/EQ replacements that would be a direct replacement without any woodwork being necessary -- again, for a SIX-string bass.
