Best Practice Amp for ≤ $100?

Despite owning several high-quality tube heads and good cabs for gigging and recording, I do not own any kind of practice rig for home use besides my lowly PodXT through PC speakers. This saddens me. :(

I'd like to stick something suitable on the "Christmas List" this year, and that's why I've got the price restriction. Tube, solid-state, hybrid, whatever - it doesn't matter. I just want to know YOUR pick for the best combo amp at or under one hundred bucks.

Looking at MF, it appears that there is a big selection of stuff from a bunch of companies. All my experience is with big stuff, so I don't really have a good frame of reference when it comes to home rigs.

there's a lot for a hundred or less? I just poked over at MF for a sec and even the vox pathfinder is $115. I just picked up a marshall lead 12 for $85 (not including tax) and even that was kinda low. I like it (that's my main rec given your price range)!

Best current model would probably be the cube 15x right at $100. those little orange crush's are like $80; I like them too (from playing in stores) - they've been on my wish list. it'd match your ginormous orange cab with 9 12-inch speakers that requires a forklift and a team of five large men to move. the one that fell over and killed that kid. the one that blocked the sun from reaching the neighbor's yard and stunted all their trees.

For the record, that kid was very sick and was probably about to die anyway.

i luuuuv the vox ad15vt, and i got it used at $100, i'm sure you could find one easily at this price also. the clean channels accept drive and distortion pedals exceptionally well:)

It seems like THE under $100(used) amp of the day.

I like the idea of the little orange amp...at a show you could put that on top of that huge 6x12 cab and hide the real head you're using behind it.

Heh

The real head is an Orange Rockerverb 100 these days. I could just set the Orange Crush on the tippy top. :D

That'd be good comedy at a gig...watching the slower ones try to figure out how that huge sounds comes from that tiny little amp...:jester:

The "lowly" Pod XT is what I used as a practice rig for many years. Through good monitors it sounds more than adequate IMO.

I now have a Vox VT30, but that's considerably more than your budget.

When I needed a practice amp a few years ago I played everything from Crates on up & that was the only amp that sounded & felt like a "real" amp. I've even used it for recording.

I think I paid $125.

x2, all my YouTube videos are made with the AD15VT, and everyone comments on how huge it sounds.

A Peavey Vypyr 15 for me. ;) Love mine.

A 30 watt used Vypyr would likely be even better.

Pretty hard to go wrong with the little VOX's, the L6 Spiders, the Roland Cube's also. They all sound a little different, all worthy.

I have a Spider 15 also.
