Look for a used Hamer USA on Ebay. The Studio Archtop will have everything you're looking for including Duncan Pickups. If you don't see "USA" under the "Hamer" name on the headstock it may not be a USA HAMER with USA made Duncan pickups. Look for "USA" on the headstock. Lew
ditto to this...a Hamer Monaco Elite mahogany comes to mind here!

Re: Best quality guitar in the 500-1000$ range

Thank you guys! I'm looking into some options right now. Specially the Schecters and Ibanez. The SZ are around 450, and the C and S models from Schecter above 800, is the diference worth the price?

also I keep looking other options, like the Wasburn Wi with buzz feiten, and this LTD Eclipse, especially the goldtop one (400 I think)

I love the Hamer model, specially the high priced Studio USA ( look at this things http://www.willcuttguitars.com/brandall.asp?brandid=30), but I'm interested in something new.

Keep 'em coming guys!

You should be able to score a Schecter C1 for ~$700. That’ll save you a little dough. The upper fret access on them is fantastic, and they play very well. If I were in your shoes, that’s where I’d be looking.

You may want to check out Dean as well. They have some nice stuff at reasonable prices.

Re: Best quality guitar in the 500-1000$ range

I like the Schecter blackjack a lot better than the exotic, just to say I don't think it's worth the extra cash at all.

Re: Best quality guitar in the 500-1000$ range

Another vote for SG's... so many things that are "right" about them...

Re: Best quality guitar in the 500-1000$ range

Check out an Ibanez RG42. Thru neck, dual hums, mahogany construction and either a fixed bridge for $525 or a Edge trem for $675 at sam ash.

Re: Best quality guitar in the 500-1000$ range

If you're wanting to check out the Ibanez SZ but don't like the inlays (I don't either) go for the 320, cheaper, but same guitar otherwise? I've got the 320 and love it, although the stock pups have been swapped. It's a very well built guitar, I have no issues at all with mine. It's not a typical Ibanez "shredder" guitar.

Re: Best quality guitar in the 500-1000$ range

I tried out a JS1000 at gc once, it was so easy to sound good on that thing. On most guitars I don't sound that great when tapping and stuff but I sounded amazing! (not really) but seriously, it's a nice guitar, I would love to have one but the price (1300) is pretty high for me.

Build your own...Warmoth style

Schecter.

I like the Gibson suggestions a lot. Sg's, V's, Explorer, used LP Studio's...ect.

However, there is one brand that no one has mentioned. Dean. Specifically the Dean Hardtail. If you watch eBay, you can get the USA model for $1100-1200. You can get the USA Professional new in the box for around $700, and get the Hardail select, which is Korean, for $500. They look very close to a PRS McCarty, and play wonderfully. Don't make a decision without checking them out.

It meets all of your criteria....Mahogany body, maple cap, set neck, dual humbuckers, fixed bridge. One awsome guitar, and by far the best neck joint of any. I own Les Pauls and the Hardtail is like playing a neck thru by comparison.

Re: Best quality guitar in the 500-1000$ range

Check out the Fernandes Ravelle Deluxe.

Carved 5A Canadian maple top
Mahogany body and neck
Split trapezoid pearl inlays
Rosewood fingerboard
Seymour Duncan Jazz humbucker (neck)
Seymour Duncan JB humbucker (bridge)
Grover tuners
Graphite nut

It has a push/pull coil tap on the tone knob.
Yes, the figured maple top is a veneer.
But, it is over a solid hard maple carved top.

The horn may look goofy to some.
But, it does fit snuggly around the leg when sitting down with the guitar.
The guitar does not shift around like with a conventional LP type horn.

They are usually around the $799 range.
Keep an eye out on Ebay.

Re: Best quality guitar in the 500-1000$ range

Dude, you cant go past a Schecter these days. No matter how good a gibson/fender is, For the price, schecter is awesome

Re: Best quality guitar in the 500-1000$ range

OK, so far I made up my mind on this models, thanks to your replies:

Scecter s-1 blackjack
Ibanez SZ 320 (goldtop)
ESP LTD EC400 At (goldtop)
Fernandes Ravelle (not sure Deulxe or Elite), ivory
Dean USA professional Hardtail or Cadillac

The yamaha aes920 was also a cadidate, but I just can't get used to its looks; too bad, it seems a fine guitar. Also I can't find the firebirds, V's or SG's for less than 1299...

So, thats my dilema right now, between these 5, which one is the best value? I'm looking for the most playable neck, durability and overall quality, I don't want it to feel cheap....

So guys, what do you say?????? :)

Re: Best quality guitar in the 500-1000$ range

i wouldnt go for the ibanez as that is one of the medium models and i find only the higher end is somewhat good.

same with the LTD. avoid the low end models at all costs. you might get lucky with one, it just aint worth the risk.

so in the end it just boils down to the fernandes, schechter and dean. i suggest you try and play each before you buy, so you can get one that feels best to you
