do a search you'll get the usual answer of tone pros or Gotoh .....I tried a gotoh in both my eppy studio and a yamaha SBG 200 holy moly both guitars kick butt ...except I want to change the pots in my eppy ..

Re: best replacement bridge for Epiphone les paul>

which gotoh did you get? can you give me a model number or something? i just want to get one that a forum bro has had good success with.

You have to remember that you have metric asian hardware on it.

Re: best replacement bridge for Epiphone les paul>

What's wrong with the stock bridge? It doesn't intonate? Adjust? Or is this just a feel-good swap? I did the feel-good thing and got a metric Tone Pro for my Epi.

Now tell me....what's a compensated nut? I went with a graphite one.

Re: best replacement bridge for Epiphone les paul>

One thing I've noticed is that the Gotoh and TonePros bridges for "metric" guitars are wider (from front to back) than the Epi bridge. The issue this brings up is that, with the same bridge height and stop-bar height, you're more likely to have the strings hitting the back of the body of the bridge. This changes the sound as opposed to having the strings clear the body in the short run from the saddles to the stop-bar.

cant get the stock bridge to intonate. i tried flipping everything around, no dice. i am sick of the problem and i know the stock bridges are "budget". i am getting the "earvana" to add that little bit of increase to proper intonation. i play rythm mostly, and lots of chords so i need the best intonation possible. hopefully these two items will solve the issue once and for all. otherwise, this guitar is outta here.

Easy solution: Wrap the strings AROUND the tail-piece like a PRS...this reduces the "angle" so the strings don't touch anything but the saddle.

I'm working on doing this with a guitar, but I can't convince myself to live with the sharp kinks in the strings. I'll find a way around it; I think it involves a file.

Won´t intonate at all or only on specific strings?

One issue here is that the gotoh will not have that much more travel if at all. If you can´t get the stock bridge to intonate on almost all strings, the whole bridge needs to be doweled and redrilled, not just the build quality if the bridge increased. If nothing intonates properly you`re throwing money at the wrong problem....

If however you have the classic problem that no matter what the G string won´t intonate but the rest will... Try a wound G. Seriously. ;)

Also, by adding an Earvana or Feiten nut onto a guitar with existing intonation issues, you´ve only introduced even more variables to the setup, essentially negating the supposed effects of the snake oil nut in addition to possibly compounding the existing issue. I´m not 100% sure about Earvana, but with BF the intonation setup gets tempered as well. The new setting could possibly be even farther out of the bridge´s travel, depending on how exactly it´s offset towards standard intonation...

:laugh2:

"laugh it up...fuzzball!" Intonation is all about string-length from saddle to nut.

Gotta agree with Zerb....if the hardware don't get it right........try different gauges of strings.

i do use a wound G string. Daddario XL EJ21's to be exact. my problem is on the 3 top strings. and i am going to put on the new bridge first. the nut is bone that was recently installed and i dont think the guy did a good job, so maybe another bone nut installed by a better tech instead of the earvana. who knows, just really sick of messing with it. i play chords ALOT and this problem is making me not want to play my les paul. my $300 yamaha fg730s is remarkably better than my les paul when it comes to intonation and tuning stability.

Re: best replacement bridge for Epiphone les paul>

The Earvana system doesn't use offsets like the Feiten system, but I definitely agree that it could compound the issue.

Did you check for bridge lean?

I have a BF guitar and love it, but it absolutely uses a tempered intonation setup and very specific offsets, both in setup and everyday tuning. The only thing snake oil about it is the claim that it makes the guitar play in tune perfectly everywhere on the neck; that's just silly. It can be really cool, though, if you understand how it works and know what to expect. However, it might be difficult or impossible to do a BF or Earvana setup on a guitar that won't intonate using standard guitar tuning.
