Best Reverb Pedal $150 Or Less

any suggestions for a really organic sounding reverb that will augment my tone instead of muddy it or cover it up or something?

Re: Best Reverb Pedal $150 Or Less

because i'm not necessarily fond of my jvm reverb. i don't know what anyone else thinks yet, but hopefully i'll get some feedback on my tone sample. i guess the reverb is good, i'm just used to the tube reverb sound.

Unless you get a spring unit, it's all digital...

From the clips I've heard, I like the Verbzilla and Holy Grail.

Re: Best Reverb Pedal $150 Or Less

I feel I get a nice natural reverb by using the EH Holy Grail on top of my Ecstasy, being mixed in with the amp's mixable FX send/return.

That's the nice thing about that pedal. You can use it on the floor or in an FX loop, and it sounds good either way. If the amp has a good FX loop, it'll always sound best there.

When I tried the JVM at the store, I just put the reverbs on very low, so it sounds like it's a got a little air, but no surfiness.

Re: Best Reverb Pedal $150 Or Less

I've got a mesa roadster head (which is *somewhat* similar to the JVM concept) and it has all-tube reverb.. of course it's great for "augmenting" your tone but if you really want to use it as an 'effect' it simply isn't lush or deep enough.. I actually prefer the spring reverb units in most fender combos since they can go from nuance to underwater.. also tube reverb is a bit of a problem because you have to isolate the vibrations from the amp to keep from hearing noise

Holy Grail is a great pedal for the money. The Flerb setting is very cool.

Re: Best Reverb Pedal $150 Or Less

i've heard great things about the holy grail pedal. i've also seen some tube reverb pedals like this one:

or this one:

or...

what do you guys think? are these expensive tube reverb pedals worth it?

Re: Best Reverb Pedal $150 Or Less

Boss RV-5 is pretty decent on Spring settings. Just make sure you put it in the loop. It can be a bit overbearing in front of your input, but still not too bad once you dial it in.

Re: Best Reverb Pedal $150 Or Less

The Holy Grail can sound cool, but it produces a very noticeable hiss, so beware.

Re: Best Reverb Pedal $150 Or Less

I couldn't really see paying $300 or more for a reverb pedal myself. I sort of see those as overpriced and gimmicky to be honest. Digital chips with a tube pre on board and a fancy name IMHO. Same guts and probably the same chips even. You could probably put a $29 Art Tube MP in front of any decent digital reverb and do just as well calling it a hybrid reverb.

A simple accutronics spring unit is tough to beat, or a Holy Grail, even a Verbzilla should keep you happy. They all sound quite natural and transparent, give a variety of sounds and don't kill the wallet.

Theres effects where its worth it to spend the big bucks but I just don't think it buys you much more in the case of reverb.

Simple pedals get the job done fine and if you want to get really fancy, software like Waves in the mixdown can't be beat

Just my $.02 in a world where the penny is obsolete

Re: Best Reverb Pedal $150 Or Less

If you want the real deal, buy a Fender Reverb unit. They are more than the $150. you want to spend, but make no mistake about it...... this is the best reverb unit out there. Its spring, its tube powered and you can control the decay. More versatile than most spring reverb that comes in most amps.

I do have a Verbzilla too, and it is a good digital reverb, but I don't feel it is anywhere near the real sound of springs. Its good, spring is better. The one minor complaint I have with it is when I set the amount of reverb I usually do this with my amp set clean(it easier to hear the reverb). whenI engage the Drive, it increases the amount of reverb. At first I was unhappy with it, but then I thought its like adding a little delay to my sound. I can live with it.

Re: Best Reverb Pedal $150 Or Less

I loved the sound of the EH Holy Grail, but be forewarned... that power supply connection is somewhat annoying. It's a male 1/8 plug and all the ones I've tried fit really loosely and falls out easily. If you wanna take the time to rewire it for a center-pin-negative power connection after you buy the pedal, then that pedal's a great candidate.
